Not my money, but my kid age 17 wanting a newer and faster cycle fuel injected, etc.

We found a good deal on a 2005 yamaha fjr1300 around 4K with under 18K miles on it.

going to go look at it hopefully this Saturday and hope it has ABS braking to lower insurance premiums as well.  Not sure which part of the vin# that he gave me shows if ABS braking or not.

Test rode a kawi concours 1400 and found it heavier/top heavy and too tall for our liking in the seat but engine seemed more powerful/smoother, but heavier bike for sure than the fjr1300.

Still much quicker than our old Valks but is not for me since even with handlebar risers have to arch slightly forward to get to the handlebars.   Does handle like a dream though and 6.6 gallon gas tank with guessing 40 avg mpg or more is nice with such a lightweight bike felt like 500lbs. not over 600lbs.

I have a 2010 Concours. They can be lowered. They weigh about 700lbs and are a bit top heavy until you get over 10 mph. When I bought it, I also thought my lower back might suffer, but no problems there. The power is awesome. I hit 100 in 2nd gear. Had to slow down to merge on the freeway. At 70 yrs old, this is my stupid fast bike.

that's a lot of power for a 17 y.o..or anyone else...I'd suggest a dedicated track day bike to get the grins and a cruiser for the street  ..and  a mandatory 24 hours of you tube video's watching idiots wrecking their bikes cooldude

Check with our insurance company on the FJR.  Seems that someone told be once that the FJR carried a much higher premium than a Honda ST1300.

I had a honda magna age 18, and this fjr1300 is faster I think?  I lived thru it..... Shocked

He keeps up just fine with me on his 97 honda 748cc magna he has now put on 6000 miles age 16 last year alone on it which is more than I did all riding season last year on both my cycles.

I also got a lead on a 2014 honda ctx700 to replace my 250cc scooter at 3500 bucks with 1800 miles on it and does NOT have that stupid DCT automatic tranny with stupid handlebar paddleshifters but normal foot shifting with clutch.  both will get near 65 avg mpg but that ctx700 is bigger, faster, and fuel injected as well.
