My grandson is finishing up 6th grade and moving on to middle school next year. Time flies. He has always been a great kid in all ways since the day he popped out. I will forever remember one he was hanging out with me when he was 3 or 4. His mom and grandma were out shopping. We were fixing something around the house. I started asking him math questions such as 2+2 and other simple stuff. He got them all correct so I jumped up the game a little. At the age of 3 or 4 he was able to do 12-6+4 in his head. I think he might have got one or two wrong out of maybe 20.
Anyway, he has been on the Presidents list for 3 years now. Last night he his last award in Elementary school. He also is getting an award today for the highest gpa in the school at 4.2, he is quite a good kid in a lot of ways and I’m very proud of him. Thanks for letting me brag a little.

Rob,

Congrats, gramps! Great memories are often made while doing seemingly mundane things... It ain't about the activity, though, as you well know... It's about doing things together... quality time that rewards us the rest of our lives and theirs! Appears like that guy is pretty darned smart! Did he get that indirectly from you or Brenda...? No need to answer that... the question was rhetorical!  coolsmiley

Woot! Congrats! And extra congrats on getting Trump's signature!

(Don't tell him it's done by autopen, but that fact  might make you rest a little easier at least.  Wink )

Thanks, honestly I’m not sure any of us can take much credit. He enjoys it and works hard at it. I think about what career he might choose sometimes, but mostly I want him to be happy.

Thanks, Bill. He is pretty well grounded and doesn’t boast much (unless it’s beating me at Foosball) but I think he was pretty proud  cooldude

I don't know. I'll have to ask. I assume it's extra credit stuff.

I don't know either. I suspect you have to use some sort of new math to come up with a 4.2 average in a 4 point system. Cheesy

It's not unusual these days for schools to score higher than 4 points on advanced level classes, thus rendering the possibility of a higher than 4.0 gpa for students who score A's in advanced classes.

he must be going to a very good schooling system since even in middle school taking advanced courses are sort of rare I think even nowadays.  Most advanced or college credit courses only happen in high school.   However,  each school can be different and the much bigger schools am sure have advanced level courses earlier than maybe even high school?  Coming from a K-12 schooling system not many advanced learning opportunities until Junior and Senior year when both my kids can take college credit courses for 1/2 of what a REAL college course would cost as long as get a B in them you get college credit.

One last brag.  Smiley Their 6th grade graduation ceremony was last night. 3 or 4 days ago his teacher asked my daughter if he would be interested in giving a speech. She said she didn't know but gave her his cell # and she could ask him. (Do all kids have phones these days ?) He told his teacher he would give a speech, but I don't think he really wanted to. He was supposed to speak for 5 minutes. Well, everybody in the family was kind of nervous and asking him about his speech. He still hadn't wrote by the night before the ceremony day. Even I was getting a little nervous for him when my wife told me she thought he was going to just wing it. I flashed back to a Christmas play when I was in 3rd grade and froze on one of my lines. So, I thought I'd write something as an emergency back up plan. I didn't tell anybody, I figured if need be I'd slip it to him discreetly if needed. Well, it wasn't. The day of the ceremony he wrote his speech. He wouldn't let my daughter see it, but he did let his 5 year old cousin into his bedroom to hear him practice his speech. Evidently she came out with tears in her eyes telling my daughter what a great speech it was. As we were at the event waiting to file in to the cafeteria I asked him if I could read it. He looked at me and very politely said no as a matter of fact I couldn't.   Shocked  2funny
As he walked in with the other kids I could tell he was a little nervous. But when he got up and gave his speech that all swept away. He gave a GREAT speech. Funny, sincere, thoughtful, kind. Everything mine wasn't. Thank the Lord he didn't need mine.  Smiley I don't know if I've ever been prouder of anybody as I am and have been of him. I am truly blessed in my life. My MIL just had surgery for breast cancer and wasn't able to go. But my wife videod it with her phone so she could watch it.
Thanks for listening to a rambling old man talk about his grandson.  cooldude

P.S. I never did ask about how his GPA was a 4.2. But I did find out that night that his wasn't the highest of the school as I thought. But highest of the entire school district for 6th grade.  Smiley

It's not easy at all for me. I hated speech class in High School. Just getting up in front of 30 other kids I knew, was stressful. He is a much better person than I already at this young age. When I was his age I only thought of myself and my friends. It would have never dawned on me to thank my teachers, my parents, my grandparents. He has a heart that is just as big as his brain. Thanks for the kind words about my grandson cooldude
