My brother and I were looking for a inexpensive way to talk on our ride to Roanoke. In the past we used FRS radios for this but it required a special harness and it was hard to hear the other rider. We looked into  Bluetooth type and found these Lexin LX-R6 they are a little above 100 bucks for two. Sena"s are near 300 for ONE.  We got a extra set of speakers harnesses and removed the speakers and soldered in a jack for headphones. With the aux cable plugged into the GPS we can listen to music then turn it down when we talk.

We took a short ride on Sunday to check them out. They worked great. Just like talking on the phone. Had a little wind noise but with the noise canceling system if just sounded like light static. Could hear each other talk even at 75 mph. The only drawback is the buttons are small and hard to find with gloves on with the unlt mounted on the side of the helmet. So far so good. We will see how they work on the trip to Roanoke.

We have Sena and we sure have issues with it.  Still we can’t live without it but I feel you are totally in the right track here.  If only someone made one that had less gizmos that worked well.
