Nosek was #3
I think it was Carlson as the #2
Reilly Smith was #1

Great game.  Not for the faint of heart, no matter who you're rooting for.  VGK looked a little rusty, let the Caps camp out in the crease area early which cost them at least one goal.  They seemed to have fixed that problem by the first intermission.  They also got REAL lucky that Wilson didnt put the puck in an empty net on a crossing pass with just a few seconds left to tie it.  They did a great job locking down Ovi.  This is going to be a great series.

Game 2 tonight and no work, no interference (no pun); caught the abbreviated version yesterday on NHL network.  Quite evenly matched for 60 minutes with both teams giving as good as they took.  If the refs keep the whistles in their pocket I believe that would favor the Knights to keep that bazooka of Ovechkin off the power play.  Las Vegas rolls four lines hard every shift.  Washington rolls four lines hard every shift.   This will be fun if these guys can keep it going for all seven.

Gonna take a side here and root for Washington.  No particular reason other than Barry Trotz being rewarded for hanging in there tough for all these years and being worthy of a Cup.

If Las Vegas doesn't win it right out of the box (no pun), it will be interesting to see if they come back next year with the same intensity and drive in their second season.

I am old time hockey and would welcome a bunch of castaways' names on the Cup as well, though. coolsmiley

cooldude looking forward to game 2. I'm pulling for Vegas for no reason other than they are nearby and I like pulling for the underdogs. Regardless, they have made history in their inaugural season.

Holy Mackerel!!!

It's a hockey game for pete's sake.

Is anyone else sick of the "pregame show" Vegas style?

At least the hockey being played is good.

I'm pulling for the Caps.  Even though he seems like a conceited jerk at times, I feel Alex baby should be on the cup.

99 Degrees outside!  Stanley Cup...99 degrees...does not compute.  Though no humidity, thank you, I remember games at the old Boston Garden when time was called and the teams would skate around to dissipate the fog.  87 degrees, 87% humidity, dew point-85?

If they get to Game 7 in Las Vegas, I look forward to the 6'4" topless showgirls on skates for the inaugural (they're spectacular.) pregame show that would definitely make the Sportscenter and the Hall in Toronto! Cool

Wait..... what?  Maybe I have to rethink ice hockey.

We didn't have any of that on Lake Erie ice hockey.  It's been 50 years or more, but I'd remember that.

Yes.  Holtby saved their bacon with that big stop on the open net late in the third.  But that is what it takes on the big stage.

Over to Washington for two; I expect a split there also.  Vegas is in this seriously and these two teams are at each other with extreme prejudice.  Nasty stuff goin' on.

The hockey world is watching pretty closely as both of these teams are kinda outside the ones that folks have become accustomed to seeing in the finals.
My buddy in Seattle said that his son has already pre-purchased 4 seats for if or when the franchise up there is recognized; hope they name them Seattle Totems (WHL) and resurrect them.

A truly gifted player of speed, size, and skill.  My only gripe with Ovechkin is that he sometimes "dogs" it and then decides to turn it up halfway through the game.  Last night he played the whole ice sheet for 60 minutes and contributed to his team mates.  I'll choose some Canadian kid over a foreign player most days of the week when it comes down to the heart of the game.  Yes, I'm slanted towards North America, but I'll give credit when it's due after a guy busts his butt for three periods.  Crosby or Ovechkin?  No comparison as to who I want on my bench for 82 games, but the Russian is here and Sid is golfing; I'll go with him for the rest of the series if he can dial it.

I'm afraid the Capitals have figured out how to play the Golden Knights.  Undecided They've got to come out in the third and get physical.

Once again I'll have to catch the abbreviated version of the game on NHL network tomorrow.
Highlights tonight when I get to the house after punching out.
3-1 final.  Close?

I didn't think it was all that close.  VGK didn't generate much in the way of offense.  They got the 1 on a Holtby brain fart.  I'm not seeing much in the way of slot area chances from them, for which I think you can credit the Caps defense.

Agreed. It seems the Capitals have figured them out after game 1. LV was never really in it. I hope they can make some adjustments for game 4.

That was my take also, the Caps have figured the Knights out pretty well.  They've been on fire since the 2nd or 3rd game against Tampa, when every time a Lighting touched the puck, he was checked, usually hard.

Did you guys see the segment about the Knights GM McVee?

He pretty much put this Caps team together.

Up pretty early, Rob?

On the job, but read the box score and it seems that the Capitals can smell the blood in the water.
 Angry
I believe it is just about good night for the Knights (yes, bad pun but telling).
Dandy Don Meredith would be tuning up for his song about now, barring a miracle.

Is tonight the end of hockey season at 100* in the desert?  My word, how things have changed over the past 60 years...desert hockey in Nevada; my dad is shakin' his head and chatting with The Rocket and Howie Morenz, his two favorite players of all time.

Washington 4-3 and the Cup.  Good game.  Ovechkin wins the Conn Smythe, I would have chosen Kuznetzov.  Lars Eller with the winner; another Montreal castoff makes good.
