Rob,

You are having an amazing 'voyage of discovery'! I know, this ain't your first one by any means. However, any long road trip, no matter how many you've had before, is full of trying new things, learning new lessons, meeting new (sometimes strange) people, seeing unfamiliar sights, eating unfamiliar foods, glimpsing a broader world than we'd ever imagined was out there! Once a mind has been expanded, I don't think it can ever be contracted back to its original form...

I'm really enjoying reading of your travels, discoveries, and experiences... reminds me a lot of someone else I know... know him rather well, in fact... known him all my life!!! Safe travels, my friend, and please keep the stories coming!

Crossing Chattanooga in the morning is always a bad idea.
To many crazy drivers.

Next time we need to talk and route you around central traffic crazy (Chattanooga).
There are some great ways to miss Chattanooga, scenic, tree lined byways with great views and great riding. Sorry I did not think of this before.

Yesterday while you were playing in traffic, Kathy fixed dinner.

Fresh (peaches and cream type of corn) corn on the cob, black eyed peas, fried okra, Mac and cheese, cornbread, fresh tomatoes, onions and lightly sweetened iced tea. Sorry you missed it.

The fresh corn on the cob made me question again why anyone would ever make grits from something as good as fresh corn.

Hopefully today will be a better travel day for you.

Rob

Far be it for me to give you pointers on how to ride - you ride fine.  Just be careful of the road rage.

I hope the rest of your trip is more adventure and less stress.

Ride safe!

Had an auspicious morning. I should have known better than getting a hotel on the east side of Chattanooga last night. But I was beat and wanted something quick. Take off this morning, at least I got gas last night. Traffic was moving well, I looked down at my gps and everything comes to a screeching halt.  Shocked manage to slow down and bail off to an off ramp. My bad  Embarrassed 2 miles down the road a semi doesn’t see me and squeezes me up towards the barrier. I’m able to slow enough where I get in his field vision and he evaded me. My bad again.  Embarrassed I should have not left myself in his blind spot. By now my adrenaline is pumping and I figure I don’t need coffee. Now I’m figuring the right 2 lanes are not for me. I get over in the far left and am pacing traffic at about 75-80. Another 2 or 3 miles down the road a lady comes flying off the on ramp, crosses all 4 lanes, misses a semi to my right by inches and misses me by inches. Now this pisses me off and I think I’m going to catch her and give her some gesture (I hadn’t decided which one). I’m busting 100 to catch her but I’m not gaining on her. I decide to relax and just let her go.
I’m not hotelling on the east side of towns the rest of the way home.  Smiley

As you found out where possible always stay on the side of town that leaves you with minimum contact with morning traffic. Tired, bleary eyed, slow thinking, low caffeinated drivers are not your friend.

Stopped in Elk City, OK Wendy’s for lunch. A much more mundane morning leaving Henryetta this morning.  Wink I was talking to some old farmers at McDonald’s about Troy Aikman. I’m sure they are tired of hearing questions about him, but I couldn’t resist. They did love talking about the big engine on the bike. Had a small gully washer that resulted in an accident and 10 mile detour off the highway. Stopped under a bridge to don the rain gear when a couple wet rat Harley riders pulled up. No rain gear to put on, they sat it out under the bridge. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are perfectly content never venturing out of their 50 mile comfort zone.
I’m becoming sad that trip is almost over.

My butt's glad I've been home a few days...

My spirit is jealous as hell of you for still being "Out There"...

Safe travels my friend.

My butt is doing pretty good, but I’ve been getting a pain in my shoulder blade/back area. Thankfully I have a cruise control and can stretch out once in a while. I’m afraid I set a bad example today though. I was going down the highway with both hands off the bars. Passed a car with a little boy in the back seat. He was waving until he saw I wasn’t holding on, then he got all wide eyed.

I’m a little disappointed. I had high hopes to do a thousand mile day. I haven’t done one in close to 40 years. I’m pretty sure I would have made OKC that first day if the alternator bearing hadn’t gave up the ghost. As it stands :
Day 1) 821
Day 2) 335
Day 3) 780
Day 4) 270
“ 5) 200
“ 6) 200
“ 7) 200
Cool 130
“ 9) 300
“ 10) 50
“ 11) 350
“ 12) 450
“ 13) 720
“ 14) 650
“ 15) 540 (tomorrow)

It’s been a great ride with plenty of interesting people all along the way.  cooldude

That's some serious riding. Nothing to hang your head about with that list.

Good for you Rob. You like it just like I do. I did a 1200 mile day once 8 years ago. That Fairbanks trip I did 10k miles in 3 weeks and I was not ready to quit. Some of us are just born to ride.  Wink
