Lady across the street from me is bout a year younger than me-72-fell and broke her hip Thanksgiving 17. It was NOT repaired properly from the git go. Earlier this year at the recommendation of a pain clinic and their surgeon she had two veterbrae fused in her lower back first and they said after the healing up they would go in and pin the hip up correctly and properly. THAT was sposed to have transpired 2 July of 2018! Notice please my use of the past tense. Her insurance has deemed in their ifinite wisdom although she is now in constant pain can no longer drive can no longer tend her flower beds can no longer go to the store on her own needs help with showering-NOT ME hired nurse-and it IS a royal pain to git from her chair to the kitchen table or from either location to the bedroom or bathroom they-insurance company-NOT gonna pay fer the surgery she NEEDS.  uglystupid2 11i've tracked down the number(s) of the Health and Senior Services here in Missouri and we will start E-mailing and calling tomorrow and see if we can get somebody to help My Friend. The answer from the pain clinic today After they called the insurance you ask? Funny you should ask. At the behest of the insurance and with the dr agreeing-other wise no scrip-they increased her pain pills per day and shortened the hours between the increased dosage!  tickedoff Aren't we ALREADY in the middle of an opioid crisis? Seems to me they are trying to not only keep the opioid crisis going but now they want to add to it! Dumb asses. Thanks fer letting me vent. When we left the drs office and I got back in the car with her Gwen used words I'd never heard from her before in the 8 years I've known her. Would have made a drill sargent blush.  2funny RIDE SAFE.

Her insurance called her today after we got back. Said she is to see her G P here and suggested a P T eval and with the eval and some new X-rays see if they can figure something out. And as I stated I found the website here in Missouri for Senior Services. And they have some links in that Missouri website for fed help. Least ways now some "stuff" hopefully startin to jell up. We shall see. da prez called me and suggested to maybe start looking for a GOOD medical malpractice attorney. I hope it don't come to that but her and I don't see her turnin into a drug dependent senior citizen. RIDE SAFE.

Get her to keep the Dr's on the ins. Company and she should harass them every day until they pay for the service she has been paying them for.....
Oh and it would be very difficult to prove malpractice......she broke her hip....they tried to repair it ....that can fail anytime even if repaired correctly.....been doing that kinda work for 30 yrs.

Medicare For All ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I recently had to deal with A LOT of Medicare insurance crap.  It's the co-insurance that's important.  If you want the type of insurance that will allow you to have home care or extended care at home or in a nursing home it starts to become extremely expensive, especially for people on fixed incomes.  Also, we were getting much different and even conflicting information from many different people with name tags, clipboards, and stethoscopes.  Some even gave us info on the down low on how to get around certain things so that Medicare would have to pick the costs up (wherever there's a system, someone knows how to play it).

My Dad lives in a 55 and older condo complex in Florida.  There are hundreds, maybe thousands of them.  I asked if he ever attended a seminar or something like that regarding seniors and insurance.  He said he never heard of one.  Could this be possible?  I see the long commercials on TV early Sat or Sun mornings, but those just that..... commercials for a certain brand.  I asked him where he an Mom got their info on insurance from.  He said word of mouth and some Doctors advice.

If I were an independent insurance salesman in south Florida I would be speaking at one of these complexes every night.  I'd stick flyers in everyone's mailbox or under every door.

Every state has a insurance regulatory board that should be able to help.
Getting them involved, usually gets an insurance companies attention, and causes them to re-examine their position.

Good luck.

"The physician can bury his mistakes, but an architect can only advise his clients to plant vines."
-Frank Lloyd Wright

Worked around more than a few incompetent sawbones; one of them actually wound up as a custodian  at a local church; he lost his license due to so many malpractices.
I imagine about what some of them would be doing if they weren't in their pretty white coats.
Selling shoes?  Hardware store?  Walmart greeter?  Selling insurance?  Mortician?  Try sizing one up sometimes, it's a fun exercise for the mind while waiting endlessly in the exam room dressed in a paper gown.  Roll Eyes

Wow, why such dislike for doctors?  I know about a hundred of them and I'd trust 98 of them with my and my family's lives.  That's not too bad.  Can't say that for too many industries these days.

And the 100 of the fine folks I call colleagues are probably some of the smartest and best educated people around.  They are also truly concerned with the well being of their patients and their communities.  Most do pro bono work for the elderly and poor.   Google Dr's without borders when you have a chance.

Peace.

Totally agree with you Gman. I know as many as you and with few exceptions I feel the same. Their are a few that I would let care for me or family but a couple of those are for personal reasons not incompetence.
