Can anyone, based on years of experience with the brand, recommend a modular helmet where the main face shield will not simply drop down at highway speeds all by itself.
I have a vega helmet that is very comfortable but that damn clear shield keeps coming down, The sunscreen part can be up or down it still happens.
Looking to replace within the next month so well BEFORE the October Oss ride
Quiet and good circulation are plus factors as well Also if helmet can be had in white (or neon green is a plus) I would just move my ear pieces and mic into the new helmet and put the vega in the basement for when visitors need a helmet
Thanks

As long as the main face shield is all the way open, it doesn't come down on me. If I try to get fancy and have it half open or something it may or may not come down on me. They're available in white, have pop down retractable sunglasses, and it looks like they're being closed out for a lot less $$$ than I paid for mine: (HJC RPHA Max) https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/hjc-rpha-max-helmet-solidEdit to add - With all such things, I love mine, it works great for me, however of course your mileage may vary...

I use HJC. Love it I can ride with the face shield up all day long. If I forget to put the chin guard (front of helmet) down, it will come down on its own if I hit a bump. I don’t mind that because I want it down anyway.

I have a Schuberth C3 Pro. The visor stays up well on it's own, but I have had it start to creep down on occasion. I love everything else about it.
I ride with the visor up probably 99% of the time, only putting it down in moderate to heavy rain.
Having said that, the pinlock visor gets lifted when the visor is up when riding, and it's scuffed the inside of the visor pretty badly.
That's the only con for me.

I'm on my 2nd Nolan modular and the shield stays where you put it. I generally ride with it one or two clicks from fully closed to keep the occasional wasp out of the helmet (don't ask why I know this). I do ride an Interstate with a tall windshield so that may be the reason it never closes on it's own - haven't tried it on a standard.

I've had my HJC for years. It always stays where I put it. I only use it when on road trips and put it on when about to hit rain. I ride with it up unless it's raining. Both the visor and the shield stay where I put them. I've never had a high dollar Shoei or Arai helmet. Usually ride with a Bell half helmet if I wear one. Sometimes don't around home. My HJC is white.

I have used the Shark Evoline for the past 7 years. First one is on the shelf, it was over five years old so I got a new one.
The face shield has never pushed itself down.
At one time (I have not checked today) it was one of only two or three modular helmets that were rated for use in open or closed configurations.
I generally use mine in the open position, closing it for rain and snow.

Ever since my first helmet after taking up riding again in 07', I've used modular helmets.
My first was a Nolan, always stayed up.
My next 2 have both been HJC, and also, have always stayed up.
You need to feel that click upon fully opening, or it will come back down.
Now, a public service message about modulars. NEVER drive with them open! I always did, get more air in my face on hot days. I left home, closed it, turned the corner, and drove into the side of a semi tractor who had pulled out infront of me and blocked the road.
My head went under the cab. Don't know how I got there, but I was head first, stuck under there. If my helmet had been open, I'm sure I would have snapped my neck. That is not a pretty outcome.

I've used a Nolan 104 for the last 3-4 years. Great helmet and has a lower face shield opening that allows me to drink from a straw with the Modular top down. I ride 90+ percent of the time with the shield up. Have no issues unless very windy or going over 65 and it will plop down occasionally. Recently purchased a Schuberth C3 Pro and the shield has not come down yet.

If the visor is coming down in the wind it's not likely brand but wear on the visor. The catches that click when you move it up or down are plastic. Over time with enough movement they wear down. Tightening may help initially but it's a temp fix.
The visors themselves are pretty much if not completely universal across brands.

Agreed. Evan, I have a full face Vega that I really like, with 3 different tinted shields. The clear one does as Carl is saying, the other 2 stay put. If you like your Vega, maybe order another shield.

thanks everyone. Yes Rob and Carl, I have replaced the clear visor, actually twice now, as it is available at the vendor's table at Americade when I go up in June. Last replaced in 2016 pretty scratched by now ( but better than getting pelted at highway speed by stinging needles) Unfortunately it is the mechanism that is fubar and needs to be replaced. Maybe I can get one from Vega as the helmet is very comfortable for my lawyer sized noggin This morning I taped the shield up and no problem at 80 mph I suppose if it rains I just take off the tape

Also have an Evoline 3. Love everything about it except the lack of any exhaust vent. Gets wet with sweat. Like CR mentioned, the Evoline 3 rated highly in safety tests both open and closed.

The "hinge and lock" part is also plastic and it does wear out, is replaceable. How often on either side of that plastic mechanism depends upon how often you use, raise and lower, the visor.
