So we're in the process of cleaning out my father-in-law's house and we came across a flag with gold trim and a gold tassel. The flag is in like new condition and is about 6' wide and 4' long.

No sure where or why he got it but I'd like to donate it. We have VFW, American Legion, Elks and Knights of Columbus in town but not sure who to give it to.

Would like to hear some thoughts or ideas.

Thanks...….

That sounds like an indoor flag with the tassles.  Maybe donate it to the local government for use indoors.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. he served in the Army from '60-'62 in Germany.

We also have a Coast Guard Station and a Veterans Hospital local to us.

It's a beautiful flag, the kind you see in Court rooms and at some political functions. I will not give it to the township.

I thought about donating it to one of the many schools but I don't know if it would be really appreciated there these days. I do know one of the High schools in town does participate in the Air Force ROTC program.

yes I have, but really don't have a spot in the house for it. If I knew the significance of why he has it I'd be inclined to keep it but with the Alzheimer's he doesn't know.

I'm sorry to hear about his Alzheimer's. I don't honestly know if it's appropriate to hang a flag on a garage wall. But, it's something to consider. He must have kept it for a reason. Or maybe no reason at all.

48 or 50 stars? Sounds like the one my brother bought at a yard sale a couple years ago. It only had 48 stars is why they were selling it for $1. The woman didn't know how old it was or why it only had 48 stars. "Someone screwed up I guess."

I never checked, just opened it up and it’s a 50 star.

That is too bad, if it had 57 stars you could send it to Barack and Michelle.
