I'm curious if emojis are not cool ? Is it so '80's ? Past their prime ? It seems a shame to disrespect them, they are almost lifelike and human. Or is it a certain quota of emojis that is over the line ? What is the appropriate ratio of these Peter Pan like creatures to words ? There must be an Emily Post of the great forums in the sky ?

Take note no emojis were harmed in the making of this post.

They remain a good way to add tone or show intent to any post (missing, when you are not there and actually speaking to your audience).

But like anything else, they begin to get old, cliche' and/or overused.

I type my post.  My default is no emoticon.  Then I decide if one (maybe two) improves my communication.

I like to use  Grin.   But really, if your post was well written, should you have to remind or prompt folks to find it funny?  It's like laughing at your own joke.   The better use for Grin, is to show you are not trying to provoke someone (anyone) to anger or other negative emotion.

In reality, this may be the funniest emoticon  tickedoff

My son used to watch SouthPark. He reminds me of one of the dudes on there. Even to the point of without drinking even, I can hear his voice going with the movements. (We might need a One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest emoji)

On a slightly more serious note, I like emojis, they address one of Frank Zappa's problems with computers:

The computer can't tell you the emotional story. It can give you the exact mathematical design, but what's missing is the eyebrows.
--Frank Zappa

Emojis give our written words eyebrows.
