I got this Tacoma not long after I retired. It was hard to find, I had
to "settle" for one with 150k, but it had all the stuff, 6 cylinder,
4wd, extended cab for the dog, manual transmission... I had to
get some $tuff fixed, a steering rack, inner and outer tie rods,
a new heater core (they had to take the dash board off for that),
a couple of sensors (made it run better and made the CEL go off)...

It's a "first generation" Tacoma, back when there was still such
a thing as a small truck... Tacomas are as big as F150s used to be
now.

There's a forum of nice people who love them, just like for Valkyries  cooldude ...

Too bad it's not Radiant Red like that other picture I posted to this thread, instead
of the boring extremely common color.

do not run over the cat, done that once sitting on top of my front tire....

the newer tacomas are overpriced and dinky inside with a near useless small bed.  For only a few grand more you can get a much larger and more capable tundra.  4 main reasons I picked the tundra over ford and dodge and chevy is reliability is much, much better,  price is cheaper the way I equip my SR5 double cab,   by far largest rear seat legroom/comfiest rear seats for adults 6' and under in the ext./double cab configuration, and resale/trade in is by far superior to the big 3 not depreciating nearly as much.  When it came out in 2007 I traded in my chevy crewcab 2007 too short of bed at 5'8" with under 10K miles on it for a tundra double cab 6'6" bed and have never looked again once at the big 3.

Feel for you John.  (I note you pulled your post - wifey woke up?)  After ex #1 I put my foot down in the beginning with potential ex #2 that such decisions are mine. I might entertain input but I will make the decision. One person has to have the authority; there aren't 3 in a marraige to decide by vote. (Except maybe in Utah.)  With vehicles generally I'll just go do it.  Did that with all the bike purchases, and recently with others, too. Be a snot and lose your input.  3 weeks ago I invited her to go with, car shopping.  She made a negative remark so I said forget it, I'm not gonna put up with that attitude today. I wasn't pleased the Exploder put me in that position, already.  Left and came back with a 4runner Limited. Frankly she isn't sufficiently knowledged on the subject to offer valid input anyway. (At least on mechanical / vehicle matters.  She could be if she was interested enough to read up on it - particularly Consumer Reports, reliability stats) And I'm not gonna have her backing up the used car salesman against me - she does that a lot. I recall you do that sort of thing in The Godfather at your peril.  Of course she might play the female card and punish/influence in the usual ways.  Fine.  Do that and you are sabotaging the house; that is escalation which will have consequences.  I won't be blackmailed by sex.  As I said, established in the beginning and I meant it.  Push too much and get replaced.

I'm sure marital advice is pending in 3...2...1...  At my age, not likely to be heard.

But I understand your position - had enough of that with ex #1. And that's why she is ex.

BTW she loves the new truck.  VERY comfy, says it makes her CX-5 feel like a go-kart.

Like John, I might pull this post.  Won't matter if it gets quoted.  I'm feeling an attitude this morning which might soften...

I've formed a couple of habits... look in your hand/pocket for the key before you
lock the door without the key... look under the car/truck for the cat/dog
before you leave... it is terrifying what people run over in their driveways
sometimes...

Don't you have a Highlander? Stick with Toyota. I am on my 2nd Tundra. A couple of guys at work have the Tacomas and love them. They last too. I about puked when i saw that stepside. I think any stepside truck is hideous. Toyota even had one for a few years.

A guy at work has a new Tundra. That thing is huge......

Have you seen that recall for Tacomas for rusted frames? A local dealership had literally stacks of rusty frames, with stacks of new frames ready to go.....I can't imagine how much $$$ that cost Toyota.....

I have a 2017 Tundra with the big 4 door cab. They are huge. A lot bigger than my 05 was. My 05 had the frame recall, They replaced the whole frame.

My Tacoma's frame is "good"... double checked by numerous people...
Tacomas from winter-salt states are mostly all doomed. Toyota
bought back and crushed a bunch of Tacomas, and replaced the frames on a
bunch of others. Mine's past the recall, if mine was rusty, I'd be toast...

Mark, I didn't pull the post so there must have been something derogatory in there I wasn't aware of. Oh well....not worthy of my time to wonder why. I have run across a '94 F150 that's had a long list of stuff repaired/replaced(see attached link) except for the motor which is the old tried 'n true 302. I could have something with "like new" running gear for $5k or less....depending on whether I bought a rebuilt replacement motor or a low mileage unit out of a wreck. And....it has the long bed which would accommodate the Valk. Quite tempting at least.  cooldude
