How do you guys stockpile large amounts of ammunition without creating an extreme fire hazard?  If your house caught on fire would the fire dept even fight the fire upon learning you have a large ammo cache in the fire?  .....and they WILL ask.

Stored ammunition is not as dangerous as most people think. It is a public perception due to movies. In MOST cases ammunition stored in a wood box does not fire, you need a confined space for it to fire (like a loaded and chambered round)

Loaded/chambered guns in a fire will shoot, loaded revolvers can shoot out the barrel and all cylinders too.

Smokeless powder in reloading quantities will burn hot, but not explode.

Black powder is an incendiary and in quantity can be deadly.  (see fireworks factories exploding)  (the typical containers for shooters are plastic or hard cardboard with a tin metal top and bottom so the cardboard lets go easily in an explosion; I don't think it's sold in any all-metal containers)

You realize ammo wont just shoot a bullet out the end without it being chambered in a barrel right?    if ammo does get hot enough to ignite the powder inside the case it will most likley split the case at the neck and the bullet goes nowhere. You have to have that chamber so the pressure has nowhere to go but out the barrel. Educate yourself, don't believe what you see in movies.

I think your car or truck, or maybe a couple motorcycles sitting in your garage would be more dangerous in the event of a fire than a few boxes of ammunition.  So maybe  it's safer to park any vehicles with gas and oil in them at least 500 feet away from the house just in case?
