Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

Yep, I did indeed get lucky! First, I've been referred to one of the top urologists in the country to help me deal with my 'male thing' issue. Second, we had a great ride here, with only one little exception. And, as for that exception, we have two friends coming by this morning to pick us up and transport us to Lucky-13's ride rectifier and recovery center for ailing Valks... and he even has the needed part already!

As if all that weren't enough, I got lucky on this motel. Yep, within a $10 (without tip) Uber ride to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and the Pizza Hut that delivered here last night brought what may be one of the best pizzas I've ever had! The room is quite nice, and this has been a very comfortable two night stay. As if all that weren't enough...

Holy Cow! On top of everything else, the breakfast buffet this morning even included one of my most favorite basic food groups! It really happened, too, because I took a picture of it!!!

Sometimes, it really is wonderful to just be me... least wise, I ain't complaining any!

Robin,

Yep, riding the crest for sure! I'm looking forward to Lucky-13 and HJ arriving... now there are a couple of certifiable characters for absolute certain! No telling what kind of merriment might happen between here and Clinton, TN!!!

Dan,

I appreciate the thought and sentiment very much! Much of my life has seemed to be 'charmed' or blessed or whatever... For sure I'm mighty happy about nearly all of it, and even the parts that weren't so great were necessary to set up some of the better parts to follow... certainly they were necessary to provide a basis upon which to better appreciate the good parts... Anyway, you just know... I'm mighty proud to be here!!!

Rob,

I know what you mean, amigo!!! I was actually going to skip breakfast, because I have some left over stuff in the fridge... Since I was going by to get a cup a Joe anyway, I took a gander under the hood covering breakfast expecting to see the same scrambled eggs and sausage patties as the day before...

Well, I nearly had an organism when I spotted you 'know what', so I did what anybody who knows me would expect... I would have taken more, but... others were watching, and I didn't want to appear any more glutenous than I already am... FWIW, it was quite tasty and well worth the scorn I did receive anyway!

My favorite diner has a sign on the wall that says "Either you like bacon... or you're wrong"

Also, it's amazing how things change in one's life over the years. 20 years ago, a story that was titled "Got Lucky" would have me expecting a much racier story.  Grin

O-B,

I imagine you already know that I completely agree with that sign!!! Couldn't say it any better myself, either!!! As for the age and expectations reference... I agree again... With age come changes in focus and priorities... Twenty years ago I would have thought the same thing, and I would have dearly loved to have been able to truthfully make such a post! Now, however, I'm content to savor the bacon and wander around with our girl... No complaints either... ALI is so much less trouble than women! (Did I just violate a social taboo?)

No kidding.  Today, it's a regular BM.

Years ago, it was a lot more fun.... though my memory of it is receding into history.

Good luck on the checkup Bruce.  Hopefully you don't need to skip the bacon for it or you might have some serious withdrawal symptoms.  Tell Gordon I said howdy.  My ex Harley riding friends that rode with us one day to Hot Springs N.C. along with Lucky 13 et al still remember the wheelie that Gordon pulled just 'cause he could. Charliemac,

Sorry for the involuntary, inadvertent nasal discharge! I pondered that statement before posting it, then I decided to ere on the side of accuracy! What a rush to spot that stuff lying there, tempting me, enticing me... What, for heaven's sake, is a body to do!!! Hardly a day goes by that I don't give thanks for being born into a pork-eating family and culture!!! Naturally, I'm also mighty happy about grits being a vital part of our diet, too! Life is so good...

DDT

Rob,

Well said!!! Now, don't let me mislead anybody; it was not the best I've ever had... but it was more than tolerable, and the surprise factor alone certainly put me into a euphoric state of mind, revved-up my taste buds, and put my salivary glands into overdrive. I went through three napkins wiping drool just loading my doggone plate! Not sure what might have happened if they'd had some grits out too...

DDT

Daniel,

Yep, well balanced, indeed! I almost went back for another plate of the good stuff and another cup of Joe... Later I'd wished I had! Oh well, life is strewn with missed opportunities and regrets, I reckon...

DDT

Dan,

Yeah, I know... but, 'any port in a storm', and all that... Given a choice between microwave and none at all... Care to guess on which side of that equation I might land?

DDT

Wizard,

Regrettably, I know what you're saying! I still get a kick out of the same things I used to, only nowadays those experiences are fewer and further between... OK, a lot fewer, etc.

DDT

Jess,

A good BM is indeed a good thing! Actually a timely BM even in my youth was, IMO, one of life's underrated pleasures! Although, like you, memories of so many things are fading...

DDT

Rob,

No kidding... in another decade or so, you'll know all about that fading memory stuff! You probably won't rmemeber this discussion then, though... but then again, there will be so much you won't recall... at least I think there will... I'm forgetting now what we were talking about here...

DDT

John,

Yeah, I can only imagine what it's like nowadays! It was way too bad for this rural oriented fella back in the early to mid 80s when I lived in that metro-mess! Memory loss can actually be a blessing in some ways!

DDT

Terry,

First, I'm delighted to see you being active on the board again! Gordon and I were just sharring 'I remember...' stories involving you and Iris! Good times, for sure!

Thanks for the good wishes. I have a great deal of confidence in the providers and the level of care I have, am, and will receive! I do have concerns, of course, but... it will all work out as it's supposed to. Yeah, I also hope my diet won't have to change due to any of this!

Gordo still pulls a wheelie now and then... I reckon he will continue right up until he has to give up riding altogether... Most people grow up... a few of us just grow older...

Yeah, timely is good.  Untimely BMs are never good.

In retirement, my mom and dad went on the road in a big 5th wheel all over the country every winter for many years until he had to hang it up for the big C.  She loved the travel and adventure, and dad loved her, so he did it.

She cracks me up all the time, even at 89.  When I asked her about the people they met at RV parks all over, she said many had lead very interesting lives, and most were retired (obviously), like they were.  Her only compliant was that a primary and recurring subject of old folks' conversations, was the satisfactory nature and regularity of BMs.   What the hell kind of conversation is that!!?

I'm LMAO.

And picture this (dad's been gone for 6 years now).  Two years ago, she traded her nearly new car in on a Dodge Promaster City (little van).  She planned to do some driving around out west (alone) and intended to camp out in back.  Said she's too old to set up tents and sleep on the ground anymore.

Jess,

Your mom sounds like a real sport! Reading your words, I got the strong sense of how she reminded me of my late favorite aunt... A character right up to the end, and amazingly sharp mentally and active physically! I'm happy for you that you still have her...

Also like your mom, she had a similar view on the tenor of many conversations with older folks! She didn't want to dwell on negative stuff, particularly ailments, diseases, and surgeries... She could hold her own in many different areas, as she was also an avid reader. I loved to chat with her, and we did that often, as I'd drop by for a visit several times a year...

She was the gal who bought my BMW Z-3, a five speed manual two-seater convertible, when she was 80!  She drove that car right up to the end, often with the top down! She bowled twice a week in two different leagues, was an avid gardener, entertained with a regular dinner for from 10 to 20 folks every Saturday evening at her home, and she was generally a very active person well into her 80s. Thanks for the memories you triggered!

DDT

P.S. Please give your mom a hug for me and tell her I'm very impressed!!!

Will do, Bruce.   Smiley   (I hug her every chance I get)

I worry about her activity in the winter and the ice in MI.  I told her if she falls and breaks a hip, I'm gonna drive up there and whip her with a knotted plow-line.

Big talk, mister.    Grin
