I had not ridden in a few weeks   Bike started with a blip of the button !  Didnt bother with any electric gear as I knew I would be home in less than an hour.

It was about 40 degrees with 25mph breeze which was 40 or so gusts higher at the river  I always find the stiff blowing winds invigorating as they pummel me and the bike.

But first I gassed up south of my home at the station at North State Rd and 9A and also topped the air back to 41 front and 46 rear then headed northwest to the Hudson River in the town of Croton on Hudson  There are many marinas there and this pic was taken just north of where the Croton River enters the Hudson River  No ice on the road but lots of wet spots and branches here and there from fallen trees over the last few days

Saw just 3 other lunatics today on bikes. One of them was a rice burner with a girl on the back seat. After enjoying the freezing wind in my face for a spell I took this pic and another with 3 seconds of video so you can see the whitecaps and flag waving proudly   Anyone who can post a gif? PM me and I will try to email it to you

I got out for a few hours today too.

Freakin' nippy.

You know it's cold when the bottle of water you took out of the fridge to throw in the bags for the ride, has not warmed up one degree when you get home.

I stopped in to a local outdoor Christmas party.  I passed on the hi test moonshine being passed around.

Some of the other guys on bikes should have passed too.   crazy2

Well crap, I wish I only had one temptation.

All kinds of stuff is illegal, immoral, or fattening.   angel

This particular shine was made with peaches.  (gag)

The faces guys were making after drinking it reminded me of this clip (of my all time favorite movie).

Wow!

Good for you Oss... nice pic. Not much riding here anymore for a bit... no snow, but frost on the roads 'til early afternoon and lots of salt spray Tongue
Bikes resting in the garage after an extensive  3 day cleanup, polish, and going over. Just fire her up in the driveway and run it to temp once a week now for a couple months and do some tinkering.

Good ya got out Evan
I fired up the girl, rode a mile to the end of the street where the salt water crosses, turned around and returned.
Did change the oil since it was all warmed up.

Have not done an audition in a long time Dennis

But do you remember this wonderful waitress that asked to audition at a Mexican restaurant at an Inzane, or maybe it was the Kentucky ride

Its been a while I suppose  I think I had dinner with Wiggy and one other member  Perhaps a response will fill in the blank

Oss good to see you are out on a ride regardless of time and distance. Even short stints help.
I too find the cool/cold temps invigorating.
I have been thinking long and hard about a 2nd bike purchase. I would like one that I do not care if there is salt residue on the road. I cant bring myself to put the Valk on the road this time of year. Here in NE Ohio there is salt residue on the roads most of the time. Along with the brine solution that is being sprayed on the roads in anticipation of it snowing.
I find, as well as my wife and children, that I have a better disposition when I am able to get a ride in.

This electric gear is really great. I use the pants and socks only when it's in the 20's.

I use my Frogg Togg rain gear as wind block, it's really impressive how comfortable it makes it.

The gloves could be a bit warmer, especially when the temp is really down there. What I could definitely use are those hand guards you have on your bike.

Bob, those are for a 1300 VTX. They are by National Cycle, 90 bucks, mine have over 130k on them.

It looks like they have a few different models for that bike. I'll make a call tomorrow. Thanks for the headsup.

Bob, they will tell you they will not fit any other bike. Not true but let them believe whatever they want.
The 1800 ones are smaller because of the curve of the clutch. I had them and got hit with the worlds biggest acorn at 80 mph and it broke. A buddy had a 1300 and had a spare, I tried it because it was bigger, fit fine. So I ordered new set for a 03 1300 Honda VTX.
When I got the Valk, it was sitting next to the X in the garage, and I swapped them, no problem.

Are they compatible with the Interstates?

If so, maybe I should get a set and we can put them on before the next October ride.

I had gotten a set from Karen but couldnt get the left one onto the bars with the big radio switches there.

This is the one you want. National Cycles P/N N5502. It lists fitment for Valks, I/S 99-01. I'd have to assume it fits all early Valks.

That is a good looking ride I haven't seen it before The bike is nice too JUST KIDDING.
Looks like you had a decent weather day to take advantage of!  My bike is at the In-Laws house for the Winter.  I was in Florida for the last week or I might have been out there as well.

Where did you take the picture?  Sort of looks like Croton but I suspect you where a bite further north maybe Charles Point?  I love the River have spent most of my free time at least 6 months a year on the water.  This said I will be moving my boat to the Long Island sound next season it's time to change things up a bit.

Rob
My camera has a motion-still picture mode not the regular movie mode

I suppose that is why it says gif or some such at the end and yes that is off the Rt 129 (the one just north of the Croton Point) exit if you make a left and go to the end  Its the north end of Croton taken at the roundabout before the private community's gate

If anyone ever wants to visit NYC for next to nothing there are campsites and cabins at Croton Point Park  Ive posted the link numerous times.  The train to Grand Central takes a bit under an hour.

Thanks again Whisky for the work !

Evan,

Yep, you're an addict, too... just like so many of us on here! Appears you had a good ride, though, and that you received the payback we all seek whenever we venture out in less than ideal circumstances... Fair-weather-only riders have no idea what they're missing, huh...!

I did it myself the other day; however, I had to give-in and hook-up my Gerbings for the return leg! I ain't as tough as I once was, but I'm still as eager as I ever was! I'd even go so far as to speculate that you are too!!!

Took the red valk yesterday. Winds off the river were bodacious

There is something timeless about sitting by that river and pondering this or that or nothing at all
Unlike time the current actually reverses with a pulse that goes almost to Albany with the tide change. Blink and miss it

Happy new year to y'all

Oss camera took the short vid as an MP4 & he emailed it to me. This site can't host MP4 so I went online & found a "MP4 to GIF converter". Converted it to the largest format it would allow, hosted it on Imgur, then linked it back here. (sounds simple, only took me 5 tries 2funny)

Thanks again Whisky for the work !

OSS,
I made reservations there this morning.
If anyone is planning on camping for your Columbus weekend ride, better get your reservations in very, very, soon, the campground fills up quickly. I could not get them last year.
