https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2019/01/07/gavin-newsom-california-governor-2/California’s new governor is promising the most populous state will be a “sanctuary to all who seek it” in a direct affront to President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom challenged the Trump administration repeatedly as he was sworn in to office Monday, particularly on immigration. The former San Francisco mayor became the state’s 40th governor, succeeding the term-limited Jerry Brown. “People’s lives, freedom, security, the water we drink, the air we breathe — they all hang in the balance,” Newsom, 51, told a crowd of hundreds packed into a tent outside the state Capitol. https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/business/article224011515.htmlHours after taking the oath of office, Newsom proposed state-funded health care coverage for 138,000 young people living in the country illegally and reinstating a mandate for everyone to buy insurance or pay a fine — part of former President Barack Obama's health care law that was eliminated by Republicans in Congress last year. You know, there is such a thing as the crime of conspiracy to violate (multiple) Federal laws.
Not that I would expect that to happen.

43 years ago I learned the meaning of exploitation in Mr. Granelli's 7th grade Social Studies class. The example used to define the word for us was the illegal immigrant. We learned that the workers were exploited by being paid less than a job was worth, by being robbed of their money after getting paid, or by never getting paid at all. Other ways the illegal migrant workers goes back to the gold rush days where the employee provided a place for them to live, eat, and shop so the worker walked away with very little of their earnings or owed the "Company Store" for their basic needs. 43 years later, and millions of illegal immigrants later, nothing has been done. And because nothing has been done, there are 10's of millions of people here, who really don't belong here. Still being exploited, but now it includes sex and drugs as much as cheap labor. As far as I can tell, the Democrats are perfectly fine ignoring the strife, sickness, death, etc. that illegal immigration encompasses and the only people saying walls don't work are Democrat politicians and their fictitious unnamed experts. These decisions seem to perpetuate all of the above. Why? I have yet to hear a legitimate argument for continuing this. In fact, 2 children died last month directly due to illegal immigration and it seems like the Democrats are digging in.

I support the concept of States being able to set up any healthcare system their citizens wish to pay for. I also support the concept of sending politicians who support law-breakers to prison, or stripping them of citizenship and deporting them to any country that will take them. As for California, it's a cancer. Next time there's a wildfire-fill the tanker planes with diesel instead of water?

Diesel is safer in the tanker planes, doesn't evaporate as much while falling through the air, and contains more BTU per gallon.

County for county Cali is predominantly "red". The comparatively smaller number of "blue" counties are along the coastal region and far more densely populated. The more rural areas are where the conservative folks choose to live. The blue counties is where all the free sh!t is.

The people leaving California are the conservatives who have options, who've thrown their hands up and surrendered to the politics. They can no longer afford to live in the liberal urban areas. I'm one of them and I've lived in the conservative rural far north for over forty years. I'd like to leave Cali in the rear view mirror, but don't know where to go. Seems to me like no matter where I chose to go I'd be automatically branded by others - who landed there a year before.

We Texans tend to be very welcoming to the refugees from the failed state of California (And New York, and Illinois, and other liberal utopias) who come here, we just request that you leave the policies and voting habits that destroyed those once great places behind you when you come... Many of the Californian refugees I've met are indeed good decent upstanding non-liberal people just trying to escape the tyranny their state has become, but unfortunately there are enough that are just economic refugees coming here and bringing the evil along with them that it gives the rest of ya'll a bad name...

I'm in similar boat here in NJ and esp. my town. high taxes are causing lower property values and disrepair and just rundown houses for those who can barely afford still live in their houses. last yr NJ had the highest % of people moving out of all states. check out all states for which would work best for you. https://www.kiplinger.com/tool/retirement/T055-S001-state-by-state-guide-to-taxes-on-retirees/index.php

. . . "grass" is the operative word around these parts. Evolution has silenced chainsaws and log trucks. The current day era sounds of silence are from scissors and U-haul trucks. This area is nirvana for those enthused by two wheeled transport and the sights that come with it. Other than endless miles of scenic twisties, not much else to spark the flame in the old school boomer era worker bee type. Unless you're into the scissor action scene. This area is at the top of the per capita percentile for those adorned in dread locks and bath in patchouli oil.

You know, I think it would be great if every politician (and all his staffers), at every level, were required to wear a battery operated debt clock like those on his breast, all day every day at work. You know, like a constant reminder. Not a badge of honor, a badge of shame.

I've lived in Massachusetts for most of my life. I joke with my friends from less liberal states (which is most of them) that I'm fighting behind enemy lines. Every year, I want to be here even less. The cost of living is ridiculous, and though I try to ride year-round, there comes a point where the bikes are put up until the roads are washed of the salt layer. I'd love to move us somewhere else, but unless you live somewhere, you don't really know what it's like. Also, I'd hate to take my 8 year old son away from everything and everyone he knows.
I'd be absolutely friggin giddy to be able to buy a "free-state" pistol, too. Our gun laws are terrible, and written by people who don't understand firearms at all.

Really nice website (i.e. Debt Clock), pretty informative.
The only other state you could compare California would be Texas, considering the size of the economy + population + area.
The website reports a Debt per citizen of US$ 9,853 for Texas and California it was US$ 11,583, but on the other hand, the debt per GDP is 16.95% (TX) vs 16.46% (CA). The later stat is more valid in my point of view, as it is related to the real wealth instead of number of people.
In any case, I would love to see politicians stop wasting my taxes money.
I personally would like to see the following happening in the Golden State: a) Less taxes; b) Construction of new homes (i.e. the homeless problem is a housing problem not a job problem); c) More investment in infrastructure (i.e. train, subway, roads, bridges, etc). d) Less expenses with social programs (i.e. allow people to work and pay for their expenses instead of getting them dependent on the government). e) More investment in the schools.
Finally, suggesting to drop diesel/gas in the wildfires is pretty shitty, doesn't work even as a bad joke.
I may disagree with some people in other States, but would never wish them harm. As a matter of fact, even donated money to the redcross when there were natural catastrophes (i.e. Hurricane Harvey).

And Meathead thank you for the facts about the tax drain Alabama puts on the fed government compared to California. Some people really do need to do some research before opening their mouths. Since Reagan was governor we have had a 50/50 ratio of Republicans to Democrats as governors. It's a great state with amazing weather, scenery, and better riding than most of the country. Unfortunately there are densely populated coastal and urban areas that create legislation that the remainder of the state has to follow...for now. But as history shows that will not last forever. I am not going anywhere.

I am fairly certain that was a joke but I digress. I read a report after the last fire in CA that stated Gov Brown put a stop to removing dead trees from forests and this was a main cause for the wildfires spreading so fast. Now I feel for all those that lost their homes and lives in these fires but if it was preventable why in the hell wouldn't somebody do something?

Visit any of the parks in California and you will see that there is management of the forest i.e. cutting dead trees. Also, read what came before: "As for California, it's a cancer." Hardly a joke but rather a statement. Context is everything.

98valk: I'm talking from my own experience of visiting the parks (Redwoods, Yosemite, Sequoia, Big Sur, etc) in the last 6 years, hiking there and talking to rangers, not from some random website written by people/bots that never visited the parks. Hell, this very weekend I was in Yosemite (government shutdown and all) and the dead trees around the road in the Yosemite Valley were harvested and waiting to be loaded. Don't trust me, I can provide photos. But, yeah, maybe the last wild fire was the folks fault for not 'raking' the forest.

declare the governor an enemy combatant and let him re think it over in Gitmo What can he do if the secret service calls him in to answer?
In the meantime Cut all federal funds to the state, congress makes the laws but the executive can close the spigot if he has the balls And use the money saved to build the wall
make an example of california calling outright sedition is disgusting
