I see it is on the VRCC calendar for Oct 12 & 13? If you are going to change to the next weekend I need to change the campground reservation. Thanks, Jim

unfortunately because of the ice
I did about 130 miles on The Logtruck yesterday. No pictures, but lots of ice hanging from the banks on the sides of the roads, even some in the road...

I had been thinking of moving the ride back one week as the colors just were not out the weekend of the 12th this year. There were almost no reds or flaming oranges this year that early. Also Bonnie will not be home that weekend because of an international herbalists conference
Lets call it the arrive the 18th Big ride on the 19th and leave sunday the 20th
Thanks for the heads up Bring heated gear just in case.
Oss
But I dont usually turn it on

Sounds good to me. I just needed to get the date set so for sure we could figure out the rest of our trip along the east coast.

Hey OSS...wish I could post pics I'd show you what a ride to the beach on Lake Michigan looks like. Supposed to have up to -50 wind chill tonight and tomorrow. That will freeze your hub caps.

Is that Croton Point, up on the Hudson??? That brings back memories, we used to camp there years ago, back in the 70s. We belonged to a camping club, that was the place for the regional get-togethers.

Evan,
Glad you stayed out of the water!!! Conditions like that can produce an unintended, non-surgical sex-change! I'm struggling to picture you with long hair, make up, and a soprano voice... Granted that would give you entre and celebrity status in certain social circles and make you very, very PC, but... I don't think you really want to go there. Besides, finding ladies clothing that would fit your particular physique would be a real pain.
On the other hand, happy for ya, amigo, that you managed to get a ride in! Nothing else like it for clearing out the old noodle and making things right... Hope you can squeeze in some more rides along the way... between these vortexes and such. Good luck!!!

been there done that, although just with the funny hat, with G-Man on the Poker Run out of LaCrosse Dove into Lake Tahoe off a speedboat in October. In my head as I struggled to break the surface of the water and swim back to the boat all I could think about was DiCaprio sinking to his doom below the surface in the Titanic movie That was c o l d water, worse than Lake Ontario beach in Weirton Ontario was

I've been in Lake Huron in May (up in Canada), and Lake Tahoe in summer.
It's close, but I think Tahoe was colder.
Lake Huron was the only bathing facility we had. Knee deep with a bar of soap and splashing was all you could stand. After three days camping at at the Pinery Provincial Park, we made a rule. If you don't bathe, you don't get to sleep in the tent.
I remember wondering why the guys parasailing at Tahoe were in full suits in the dead of summer. I waded in and instantly understood.
Once, miles and miles down dirt logging roads, way up in the lower peninsula of MI in fall, we were bathing in a freezing stream. Five naked guys bathing thigh deep in sunlight, and a family full of kids in a station wagon drives up on us to ask directions. I just sat down in the water until they left. I think I got PTSD from that experience.
