Driving on the highway this morning in the middle lane. Person in the left lane forward of me starts to merge into the middle lane in front of me, but there's a snow shovel on the white dotted line between lanes. The person almost goes right over it, but then sees it and swerves back to the left, clipping it with their right side tires. This sends it flying into the air... right into my truck's windshield area on the passenger side... where my wife is sitting. Somehow, the windshield didn't shatter. Broke the wiper blade, destroyed the antenna, scraped the hood, passenger mirror, and swung down the side and hit the passenger door. No idea what happened to it after I hit it, because I couldn't move over or stop, but traffic kept moving so I don't believe anyone got it any worse than we did. Obviously, the wife was a bit shaken up. If I had a decent looking truck, I'd probably be bummed. Something to be said for driving a 13 year old truck with paint issues.

Glad you and your wife are ok. A few months ago a wheel came off a trailer as my wife was driving her Miata down the Hiway. Hit the front right side and then she went over it. Caused all kinds of damage. But it could have very well bounced up and went right thru the windshield. Guardian angels must follow along with sports cars and old trucks along with motorcycles.  cooldude

Combat driving.  With incoming.

I will never forget having a king or queen mattress lifting up off a truck ahead (of my bike) on the freeway.

Wow, you don't see that every day.

It floated up, I got left, it floated left, I got right hard, it floated right.

Screw me, this hovercraft mattress is possessed, and after me.

(Remembering basketball) I faked left, and then went back right, and passed it as it finally touched down.

A lot of horns and screeching brakes behind me.

Screw them, they're in cars.

People who don't tie down their loads should be horsewhipped.

You know what the odds are if you hit a big mattress while on your bike on the freeway you will actually fly off the bike and land on the mattress?    Karma's not that good to anyone.

daughter came home from college before winter on Interstate.  Trailer tire in front of her blew out and came right at her car doing 65 mph am sure.  Trailer Tire was shredded but still probably mostly in tact and ran over it left front side.  It dented the tranny casing in a corner,  ripped out the plastic left side front wheel well lining, and ripped off the lower left rocker panel.  She never said it felt or heard it that bad so she did not stop and inspect damage since she thought none.  How she could NOT see a 6 foot rocker panel flying up in the air behind her I do not know or a fairly decent sized black plastic wheel well flying around her car either????  Amazon for wheel well lining for 21 bucks and junkyard for lower rocker panel 30 bucks plus 10 bucks for clips on Amazon saved me over 500 bucks at a stealership.

Booby that was a close one.    Glad no one was hurt.    Sounds like the situation could have had a really bad outcome.     Glad you and the wife are ok

So I was down your way that same day.  Had to make a quick trip to Enfield, CT to look at a seat for the Wing.  My schedule was restricted causing me to run down I495 and I290 around 7:30 to 9:30AM.  OMG!!  Southern ME driving skills have gone to hell but there sure are a bunch of folks your way that must really like their jobs.

Good news was only one SUV that got the RAM's horns (air, not actual).  Glad I was in the truck and more glad that I was not on the bike.  Had I been able to leave later I would have taken the bike as the weather was pretty damn nice.

Coming back though was downright amazing.  Absolutely no traffic.  I've gone thru there at 2:00AM before and seen more cars.  Must be everyone was watching the duckboats.

Coming home to Minnesota from Cincinnati on Wednesday, in Danville, an entire semi trailer duly tire setup, both tires, break drum Still bolted together, laying on the shoulder under a bridge. That had to be very exciting for someone.

Glad no one was hurt and the damage was minimal.    Could have worked out much differently.

Once traveling through OKC (as I remember) someone didn't secure an aluminum extension ladder properly.  The folks ahead of me ran over it and so did the folks in three different lanes as it was tossed from one vehicle to the next.    I was driving my truck/trailer transporting some big/heavy ford.   It made one hell of a racket and ruined two trailer tires.    That was the last time I transported with only one spare for the trailer.   I'm sure the owner of that extension ladder wondered where his ladder went until he saw the evening news then, quietly bought a replacement ladder.

This is one of my biggest concerns when I ride to work at 0230. There's a pretty long section with no lighting at all, no houses, biz, nothing. My lighting could sure use an upgrade.

Always worried about any one of different things I've seen on the road. Chairs, ladders, coolers, etc.

When following a car, I always stay behind one side or the other. You'll never miss the thing they just drove over.
