My wife has been having trouble with her eyes for months now. It has gotten a lot worse lately. She has been in much pain with what they’ve determined is extreme dry eye. They have done multiple different things with little effect. Our insurance has covered little of it, which has bothered my wife that we are spending a lot of money on her with no real improvement. Well today was a turning point. After another $1200 special contact today was the first day that it felt good for her. After 3 grand maybe we’ve got it licked. Just in the nick of time too. Thursday we leave with our grandson for a vacation in Europe. Anyway that brings me to my question. Is there a dollar amount that you would top out on for your eyes ? Having gone thru this, I don’t think there would be for me.

No, short of interfering with other life and welfare needs.

If I had to look at you every day... not very much No but seriously, do anything it takes for her to keep her eye sight. I know you might not be much to look at but there are endless beautiful things in this world to see. I'd spend millions on my wife's and kids eyes if I had to.

Is cabin pressure for hours going to be ok. Plus it's really dry air.

They know about our vacation. They didn't say anything negative about the air travel. Today after they did this latest thing is the best she's felt in a month or more. Hopefully this is the trick.

My wife had laser surgery to repair a tear inside the eye near the retina. The results phenomenal, the cost equal to the results. If it can be fixed, do your best to fix it.

As best I can understand her issue. She has extremely dry eye that the doctor has seldom seen like. This in turn has torn up her cornea. They have tried different drops, medications, even some kind of contacts that are made out of placentas. This latest trial is some kind of special contact that releases lubricant thru the day. At least that's how I understand it. She doing much better today. She is a little nauseous because it throwing her equilibrium off a little. But the doctor says she will adjust to that in a week or two. She feels bad that she is costing us money. It's a non issue to me.

"The eyes are the windows to the soul." To lose one's sight or hearing has to be a heavy load to carry and be deprived of sensory input. Assisting a precious one to retain a sense by any means or any cost is an act of love.

My wife also has very dry eyes and has to use a special contact that cost a fortune but it is worth it. She has lasic years ago and since having kids her eyes have diverted back to sh!t. Her lasic had a lifetime warranty so she is looking into having it redone. I have 20/20 vision and the boys both wear glasses. I tell her the boys got all of her bad Genes.

Hell Rob, sorry to hear the troubles you're beautiful wife is having.
You got to let her know, money ain't crap without your health and I'm sure you have.
I have a friend that went through that same problem, and she seems fine now, but I don't know what was the final cure.
I'll give her a call tomorrow, if you think it'll help.

Thanks, Bill. Today is much better. I hope we've turned the corner. If you don't mind, I'd be interested to hear how your friend ended up. No hurry. Thanks

How much are you spending on your Europe vacation? Without seeing its worthless. Dry eye can lead to many other problems also, Im glad your wife finally found some relief and hope your vacation is a good one.

Probably too much. I don't know. I'm in charge of the big picture finances. I delegated the mundane, monthly bills to her decades ago.

the sense of hearing and sight are the 2 I would not want to live without. You can cut corners elsewhere such as if needed be, canceling your Europe or other vacations if the need arises for some cash to pay the bills.
Have you checked into some type of surgery that would fix her issue or got a 2nd opinion on the best treatment?
We use to take family vacations yearly when our kids were young, nothing fancy usually a week off work somewhere within 300 miles or less from home. Last 5+ years (or more) cannot remember in more recent years the last time we as a family have taken more than a few days off work last being I think our family trip to Washington DC around 5 years or so ago. With work being what it is, my mom's condition, and soon to be BOTH kids in college, family week or longer vacations are out for years to come am sure. I think the last time I flew in a plane (not like I am a jet setter anyways) was age 22 some near 30 years ago to Arizona to visit in-laws for 1 week.
You have to set priorities and eyesight should take priority if money is an issue cutting corners elsewhere can be done easy enough.

Although I might punch in her other eye after last night Since she has been off work and we are going on vacation, she figured she would clean house and mop the floors. She left the mop and bucket out. I get up to go pee in the middle of the night, trip over the bucket, pull a calf muscle and wrench my back. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

I have dry eyes and take 2 pills daily called "hydroeyes" and you can get them online no sub needed.Made a huge difference. Wife and I both just had lens replacement surgery done at 4k an eye. Insurance does not pay a dime. We both are now assured to have 20/20 vision for the rest of our lives. cannot put a price on eyesight. I had the start of cataracts of which insurance would pay for most of but since they were not advanced far enough insurance would not pay. I suppose if I waited another 5 years they would but I could not wait.

You spend whatever you need to for Brenda's eyes. There truly is only one answer and you already knew it.
