new to this site so not sure if i am posting this right or to the right board.
I need (want) a windshield for my 97 standard. I ordered a Memphis Fats shield from J&P only to find out yesterday that the mounting kit, MEM8985 (that they said would fit) doesn't fit - bullet instruments in the way. Called them and they swear  that the mounting kit fits my bike even though it says VTX1800 on it (and i know for a fact that it doesn't). Went on the Memphis  site and do not see GL1500s even listed. I sent them an email but am pretty sure they will say they don't have one to fit.
So, where can a get a good  aftermarket windshield? I checked  National cycle and it seems they have a few that may fit but they are even more pricier than Memphis.
Also , I am i correct in assuming a Valkyrie tourer windshield will fit the standard? (what about the interstate?)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That Memphis Shade may fit your bike (but they may expect you to move your gauges to make it fit).  That can be done, but I don't know how.  The gauges can be moved/shimmed, but I suppose the Memphis mounts might be shimmed out too.

I'm an Interstate guy, so I don't know what's best for a Standard (with no existing Tourer shield hardware).

And once you try to install something, they can be pissy about returns (unless there are NO telltale marks anywhere, and use the same carton and packing it came it).

It's always a good idea to ask advice before you buy.  (you rely on Mfgr's fitment information at your own risk)

My '98 STandard came with a national Cycle Clear Switchblade 2-up with the hand wings . Don't get the biggest one, because unless you're 6'6 or taller you will never see over it. I would like to get a Chopped one myself (and I have a longer than average torso for a 6 footer), but a shorty would work also.

An I/S windshield will only work with a I/S fairing.  Fitting a I/S fairing to a Standard is a lot of work.

A OEM Tourer screen will work on a Standard with the OEM mounting hardware and in MHO is the best you can get and no mods to the meters.

Switchblades are nice also.  Got one on my Bobber and it's a great screen.  Easy to install.

The Memphis Fats will fit. I have one on my standard. They must have sent you the wrong mounts. It will fit without moving the instruments, although it does stand more straight up than I like. The mounts can be modified a little to make it lay back a little. No doubt the Tourer screen is better. But they are hard to come by and rather expensive nowadays.

Memphis Shades should fit unless your Valk is modified somehow. They are easily removed, leaving the brackets, and reinstalled in minutes. I like them better than the oem set up, especially when kicked out at the bottom 1 inch. (you have to fab an extension for that)
If you have a light bar added, may be a problem, don't know.

Michael; they certainly have a good selection. IF Memphis doesn't have a bracket I may look into the classic SS. Not sure if I need/want the turn signal cutouts.  Do you (or any readers) have a Rifle shield ?  Im not familiar with the company.

Memphis Shades got back to me this morning and they agree, the  mount that J&P sent  will not fit a Valkyrie.
they do have one mounting kit that will (MEM9919) but it s a quick disconnect kit not a trigger lock.
J&P does carry it. I contacted them (email) to exchange it (with refund of difference)  and am asking them to pay postage since its an error on their web site.   They still  haven't got back to me.

agree,  I got off craigslist somewhat local a used national cycle off of a honda vtx1800 good deal with 2-3 longer 1-2 inch scratches in it really cheap.  Problem was the mounts on it were for the guys vtx1800 which will NOT fit our honda valkyrie std/tourers forks NO way.  Yes,  way, way too tall of windshield unless 7 footer, but so far have not cut it down any but would have liked to see over the windshield if having to.   It is the same windshield vtsx1800 or honda valkyrie, but mounts are different for sure.

If it doesn't work out, I think I have an old Memphis Shades mount. You're welcome to it....I found an OEM windshield and swapped it out.

Thanks, but they are sending me a new one that Memphis says will fit.  We'll see.
