We were driving back from downtown Paris. These guys ride crazy. We were sitting at an intersection waiting to turn. He evidently thought he could squeeze by. Nope, he nailed us in the left quarter panel. I’m amazed he didn’t go down as hard as he hit us. Glad we got the full rental insurance coverage. He hurt his foot a little, but otherwise was alright. He was actually a very nice, apologetic young man.
Here are some pics before the Honda get together.

I liked Paris a lot better than London. But, I don’t think I could have done another day of driving in Paris.

Thankfully I had about 4,126 roundabouts to practice on in Ireland a few years back. Strangely, what I’m having the hardest time adjusting to is looking back when I go in reverse. I keep looking over my right shoulder. Can’t see much that way.

We stopped in Lyon, France tonight. Headed for Milan, Italy tomorrow. France has a lot of farmland. It’s getting pretty beautiful here towards the mountains.

Brayden and I have taken to exploring neighborhoods around our hotels at night. We came across a really different apartment complex in London. The area seemed diverse to say the least. I’d guess about a quarter each native French, Arab, Indian, and African.

This one is in Lyon. A lot less diverse. About 75% native French, 25% Arabic.

Saw this bike in a shop last night. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of them.

Today was a dramatic day. Going thru the French Alps was pretty cool. Lots of tunnels. Milan is the prettiest city we’ve seen yet. But is was also the most stressful driving yet . The roads are the narrowest ever. We ended the day with an authentic Italian dinner. Spaghetti Carbonara and Pizza.

Today was a lot of driving. Brayden is studying WWI in school. We are going to see the remains of the trenches tomorrow.

A VW Passat. I never get anxiety or panic. But I came close in Milan. The downtown streets were freaking narrow ! And the parking garage was unbelievably tight. I couldn’t count the number of times that I had only 2-3 inches on both sides. Thank God I’ve had Brayden up front as my navigator. He has been a whizbang on the gps ! Tonight I dropped them off at the hotel and went to get pizza. After I got about halfway there it dawned on me, I had no one guiding me. As I’m waiting on the pizza, i’m trying to etch the map in my memory. That’s hard to do when you have a pea brain such as mine.  Grin

Did you hike the stairs to the top of the Eiffel?  I did that decades ago when we were there.  Sounds like a great trip.  I saw some of the battlefields in France from both wars.  Normandy was really interesting.  Lots of remnants from the war.  Bunkers and such.  This was only 20 years after the war.

Yes we did. My legs were sore for a couple days. My wife pooped out on the first floor (which is actually a pretty good ways) and waited there for us.

Today was pretty cool. I didn’t realize Brayden was so interested in the history of WWI. I think this was his favorite day yet. Which makes my day.

We stayed in a very old chateau at Chateau Thierry (a WW1 battlefield IIRC) - Not a tourist place.  My dad was good at paying locals for authentic lodgings and dining.  Back then there were still lots of tank trap concrete structures all over France put there by the Nazis. Lots of concrete bunkers and the like all over the countryside.  Visited the Hurtkin (sp) Forest and surrounds where much of the Battle of the Bulge was fought - See the series Band of Brothers to see the country and towns there.  The forest was still heavily splintered from artillery.

It’s been a long time since I’ve studied anything about WWI. I either forgot or didn’t know to begin with the huge role that Canadians, Australians, and the Kiwis played in this war. Reading some of the letters they sent back home was eye opening.

Didn't know Honda had a factory in France.  coolsmiley

The trip looks like a lot of fun - you could probably contact the local VRCC board and find someone willing to loan you a spare bike and go riding around with them.

Mark Stovall (Rocketman)  met up with the Russian VRCC when he was there for NASA and had a ton of fun.
