Sometimes it’s the little things

We’ve been having a great time here in Europe ! We’ve seen lots of cool stuff. But as I’m laying here in bed wide awake as my wife and grandson are sound asleep, I realize what a lucky man I am. It’s the time together that I will remember the most. Simple, carefree moments that we all take for granted. We’ve had many laughs together. Some even at my expense.
  We were stopped somewhere looking up something on our phones. Hotels, activities, maps, I don’t really remember. Whatever it was, I couldn’t find it. Brenda said “just ask Surri”. Well hell, I don’t know “Surri” or how to ask her anything. I take my phone and loudly talk into it asking the question. My grandson just busts up laughing. Evidently you are supposed to push some button first before asking the Genie your wish.
  Watching old men with phones must be akin to us watching our grandparents trying to use a microwave. Some things are just inherent. Anyway, for the last 3 days all I have to do to get a chuckle out of him, is act like I’m going to yell at my phone.
  Like I said, it’s the simple things.

Making memories for all 3 of you, time passes so fast.

my kids high school and college use their phone for stuff I could care less doing and think I am not too smart because of it.

Yet,  3 years ago when daughter started college as a freshmen, her and her roommate were trying to find a parking lot off campus for the first time, me following in my car,  and kept driving around.  We stopped on side street and I asked daughter where is this parking lot (place they need to park their cars off campus) both of them searching their cell phones for a few minutes.

me getting upset on their briliant driving around time, pulled out my cell phone and spoke into goggle the name of the parking lot.  WOW,  popped right up only 2 blocks away easy drive - PROBLEM SOLVED.  the old man still has it!   

Both my daughter and her roommate never said a word - me being not too dumb for an old man NON educated like they are with their fancy cell phones....

Sometimes I wish cell phones were never invented to be honest, plus the 230 dollar bill every month for 4 phones is crazy high.  That and my dish TV bill being 85 bucks every month is over 300 bucks a month in bills I can do without....  That is a car payment.....

I too find using the new smart phones troubling, especially with me being in IT for 10 years before I retired.  I really liked my flip phone, but bowed to the request of my DW to replace it.

I disabled Seri, so can't yell at her nor have her yell at me. I do know how to look stuff up on the phone and do text with my kids, they setup a group for us.  I have even disabled the mic/camera on my laptop, so can't ask for help on it.   Like being in charge I guess.  Though I do rely on my DW using her phone/Seri  for directions when in a new place

Where are you visiting in Europe and for how long? 

It’s almost over now. But, we spent 2 days in London then drove to Paris and spent 2 days there. Then to Lyon, Milan, Lugano, Lille, Ypres. Tomorrow we will take the ferry back to England, then home the next day. It’s been a good trip. Intense at times, but wouldn’t trade it for the world.
