Not quite sure why, but it gives me hope for the future of humanity that you can now get authentic Mexican street tacos, made by a native born Californian, in Saigon (AKA Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam...

As eaten and reviewed by a Norwegian...

(BTW, for a population of 92 million, Vietnam has 45 million registered motorbikes, putting us to shame...)

As I said..... The times, they are a changing.....

Funniest thing I saw was when in Miami on State business some years back. Went to a local Italian restaurant with a couple fellow employees and were served by an Oriental gal, in an Italian restaurant, with a thick German accent. Found out she was born/raised in Hamburg. Go figure!  Grin

Had BBQ monkey in the P I. Street food with an ice cold San Miguel.

Had totally forgotten about the monkey meat skewered on a stick on a grille on the sidewalk of Olongapo. Never had the guts, or enough San Magoo in me, to even consider it.  Shocked  coolsmiley

John, your story reminded me of a conference call I was on several years ago when I worked for Piedmont.  We were having some technical issue with our F-28s and our engineers wanted to talk with the Fokker engineers about it.  Our engineer spoke English with an Ethiopian accent, the Fokker engineers spoke Dutch but not English so we got our local Fokker Rep, who was Columbian but spoke English and Dutch to translate.  The rest of the fellows spoke English with a thick North Carolina accent.  I couldn't stop smiling during the whole call, it reminded me of a Monty Python skit.

As a side note, our engineer who emigrated here from Ethiopia was named Bisrat Seifu.  The North Carolina boys always had trouble with his name and would refer to him as Muscrat Shampoo, which he took in stride.  He was a class act.

Yup. Sh!t River. Still have a couple pix as evidence. Can't imagine swimming in than murky smelly gutter of a river. Not to mention the kids holding the coins in their mouth. Glad I missed the duck exhibition. I never ventured too far beyond the bridge. Saw everything I needed, or didn't need, to see within a 150 yards of the gate.  Undecided

Oh, as hard as it may be to believe things got even dicier further from the gate. I remember one night missing curfew and fending for myself in the neighborhood they called ”the jungle”. Being young, dumb, and full of something wasnt always beneficial to one’s health. (But, I’m here to talk about it)  Smiley

How about Captain Q rum and yaki-mandu on the streets of Korea?!  something delicious about eating fried pot stickers cooked over a 55g barrel and washing it down with cheap rum.

In P.I. just put tons of that red hot sauce over the meat on a stick and enjoy!!

I don't eat seafood so never tried the squid in HK, but did bring my wife over for a week. She had blond hair at the time and that was one helluva sensation on the streets of HK for sure.
