Took a ride today   down highway 71   south of Fortsmith AR   and    was almost hit twice  and one pulled in front of me   had to lock brakes on that one...what is it going to take for people to pay attention??One of them I know for sure was on the phone.

Had 2 idiots turn across me today and I'm in a white school bus with headlights on and a strobe light on the roof.

They are trying to kill us.

I got a message from a friend today he is currently vacationing in Cuba and somehow heard about a fatal motorcycle accident near my house my friend basically just wanted to confirm I was OK!
I don't know any details except I do know I drove right past the accident sight twice last week. 
All I can say is live eachday!

I almost hit a wheelbarrow today laying sort of in the middle of each lane, does that count?  

Lucky I kept my following distance from the car in front of me who was mere inches of nailing it seeing him swerve right violently so I swerved right not as violently behind him.

Man oh MAN it felt good last 2 days finally getting cycle out riding to work and me and the kid took out the Valks from 6:30 to 7:30 tonight his first ride of the year although only 26 miles when the sun goes down it gets sort of cold.

hibernation now next 3 days again snow is coming (maybe?) although the slush will melt my this weekend or it should being sunny and high of 50.

why,  avoiding potholes or idiots on the road? 

I would not make it in the big city the beltline traffic in Madison WI is bad enough and am sure that is not even close to some bigger cities traffic issues.  I cannot stand NOT moving or crawling along for 45 minutes just to go 10-15 miles.  It literally drives me nuts if stuck in traffic for very long

Over the last 5years, I've almost stopped riding, even locally. The situation with drivers on phones, talking, texting, and possibly watching videos has just made it too tedious staying alive to enjoy the ride, and the local road potholes don't help either. I got cut off in a roundabout last week while I was driving this
when a young lady on the phone zoomed straight through the roundabout like it was just a straight stretch of road. Not until she noticed a huge chrome grill stopped about a foot from her ear did she come off autopilot. If I'd been on a bike, leaned over in the traffic circle, I wouldn't have been able to brake that hard without the bike sliding out from under me. If you can't see that van, what chance do I have you'll see my black bike? It's just not fun anymore. I find myself hopping into the Solstice like I used to jump on a bike.

When I taught my son to ride, I told him to ride like he was invisible not invinceable.

I never assume that a driver has seen me and so far that has served me well.

My ST 1300 has the modulator on the headlight to make it more visible.

The funny thing is that I've had more close calls on it than my Valks.

Nothing is 100% and maybe subconsciously I spend extra seconds thinking that they're going to see me.

       My motorcycling days ARE numbered due to some declining physical stuff and WILL be taken from me long before I wanna give it up. I also REFUSE to quit just cuz of a Huge number of dumb ass sumbitch non payin attention steering wheel holders can NOT and will NOT grasp the Fact the are and should be responsible for their actions while under the wheel. And the courts have proven time and time again we as Motorcyclists don't count in the grand scheme of things. I mentioned a week or two back that 2 Riders died here in Missouri about 24 hrs apart. I M H O negligent cage drivers were the perps. RIDE SAFE.

I understand, but I think it's more the perception than the situation. I've been riding about 50 years. It's been a huge part of life, and I'll still ride. I broke 3 vertebrae, a collarbone and smacked up 2 knees over the years, plus some small stuff. I don't scare easy. I DO keep checking the score and players, and never assume the game now is the same as when I was born. I didn't work hard all my life to not enjoy things I'm just beginning to now, like leisure time and less responsibility. I'm willing to voluntarily do (or not do) some things now based on how I perceive the risk:reward math. I guess it's like lottery tickets-I wouldn't spend $10 to have a 99% chance of winning a $10.05 jackpot, but I'll gladly drop $2 on near impossible odds on a $1 million one.

Besides assuming they are all trying to kill me, that I'm invisible, that I have to ride EXPECTING stupidity and am often right on that - I've made my bikes EXTREMELY visible from the front with spots on high beam (on Jade they are H4 headlights; Deerslayer aircraft landing lights) always in the daytime and flip on the 130w headlight high beam for everybody about to cross my path.  Deerslayer also has a modulator and a fire truck horn.  A really big bike like our Valks rigged with a LOT of light spread out on the front does a lot to prevent invisibility from the front even with texters.  I rarely have to do evasive action here.  But then much of the Denver metro area has modern traffic design limiting access to through roads from developments.

I have the original headlamp w/100w lamp and a pair of originally 55w Showchrome 3" which I changed to 35w because there's visually so little difference. 'course she didn't see a silver E350 with daytime running lights, so there's that...

I assure you, avoiding close encounters with 4 wheelers  is a good idea.  Been there, done that.   The end result was not desirable.

I reached out to a friend Tues to see if he wanted to join me for a ride only to find out that some girl ran a red and  just missed blowing into him but didn't give him enough time to stop and he hit her in the side.   Fortunately he will be ok a bit banged up and out of work for a while but he will heel.

best advice I can give on avoiding collisions is keep AWAY from people in front or behind you but if someone pulls out in front of you with their head up their _ss,  sometimes collisions are unavoidable.   

If a car is coming up behind me speeding more than me,  I give them plenty of clearance to go around me if I cannot speed up say 5-10 mph to keep a LONG distance away.   If I catch up to vehicles,  I pass them every chance I get to avoid being around anyone EVER.

Yah,  that is not possible in city heavy traffic, but most of my riding are country roads until I get into Madison WI then I am toast....

That is why I dont RIDE to work. The city I live in is not very large but people on their way to and from work are oblivious to anything other than getting to work or home. When I do have to ride throigh the city my head is on a swivel. I prefer riding two lanes in the country, but then you do have to watch out for them Suicide Forrest rats.
