I'm adopting a puppy from Eastern Europe that has a history of parasites and parvo.  Supposedly he had been successfully treated for both and is now OK for travel to the U.S.

Not sure the breed.  He's about 7 months old give or take.

Are there any residual signs or symptoms I can look for which may suggest and unsuccessful treatment for parvo?  Should he remain on any special diet(s)?  Supplements?

Thanks in advance.

just make sure you take him to a confident vet the day or day after he arrives and tell the doc all about him. I'm sure he will come with a history of his health and what was treated and what with. Your Vet may want to test him again to make sure it is gone. I have never dealt with parvo but have heard stories. Good for you for adopting. More people need to do this. Too many great dogs out there without homes.

Bad link.

Why this dog from so far away?

Who pays for the quarantine (if needed)  in the USA?

These foreign puppy adoptions are usually scams. Don't send any money overseas. You'll never see the dog.

Yes, the thought has crossed my mind once or twice.  But,....

Seems on the up-and-up.  I paid through Paypal on their recommendation and Paypal automatically entered all their information when I entered their e-mail address, so they are known to Paypal.  I had a Facetime interview with one of the volunteers there.  They gave me an actual flight and arrival time that has checked out.  They put me in touch with another person who is adopting another dog and we've already set up a meeting time and place to meet the flight together.  They provided a list of what to bring with us and they said they will provide the "companion's" name when they are sure who will be accompanying the dogs on the flight. (was wondering if I should give this person a gratuity, we'll see how it goes, I guess)

And lastly, they were recommended by a friend of mine who I trust (so far).

Not being judgmental at all, but sincerely curious, why go through the trouble and expense to adopt an international dog when there are so many available locally in the same situation?

Again, please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put down your decision or judge you or anything of that ilk, just genuinely curious.....

I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible. I briefly had a veterinarian in the family, but that's another long sad story...

One day, while on Facebook and missing my recently departed Dylan, I asked if anyone knew of any puppies for adoption.  I got the usual replies to check the shelters, which I was kind of doing already by frequenting PetFinder.com.  I had also visited a couple local shelters with my son on a handful of weekends only to fight crowds.  Very competitive to adopt a puppy here it seems.  I am ONLY interested in a puppy or very young dog as I get very attached and can't see myself adopting an older dog to have to put down in a year or two.  Anyway, my friend Sylva posted a pic of a very cute puppy with some info about the rescue shelter in Armenia.  I went to the website, like other websites I went to from petfinder and just filled out a simple application.  Only THESE folks actually called back.  They were straight forward about the dogs's medical condition and kept in touch.  When he was OK, they got back in touch and we had a facetime interview.  The fees were the same as adopting locally, and it  included the flight.  I didn't pay for his medical treatments.  I didn't have to leave the house.  I just have to go to the airport to pic him up.  Very easy transaction on my end, so far.

Groovy, thanks for the info! We recently went through the Petfinder and meandering to the various city shelters thing, several times got our hopes up only to have 'em adopted out from under us, so I understand... (Before eventually finding the perfect dog for us in December, but that's a whole other story I won't threadjack you with Smiley )

Cool that they're covering the price of the flight, that was one of my concerns, that and any government paperwork on bringing a dog into the country.

Not something I'd ever heard of, thanks again for the info, hope everything goes smoothly, and please keep us updated on the process!

I sure hope all goes well for you and the new dog. Parvo is common in pups born in certain environments all dogs get shots for it as a precaution. There is too many unanswered questions for me to do this. I am to skeptical on seeing adds like this but that's me.
