Tom Petty was an American classic.  Love his music.

Have you heard the new PC version of this song?!

It says 'Let's HIT another joint'!

I've heard that version on iHeart radio.  In my opinion not really different than saying roll another joint, since it's common to hit a joint after rolling it...

Now I can't get this song out of my head.   I used to hum the Adams family intro song with the finger snaps to various people and wait for them to hum it back and then wait for them to get angry.   uglystupid2

I'll bet your mother was (is ?) real proud of that fact.

My parents were cool with it, as long as I did it safely, preferably at home, so I guess they're proud of me and where I've gone in life...

(They did ask that if Grandma asked what my bong was, I tell her it's a modern art sculpture)

Was funny, friends of mine with less..... understanding..... parents would freak out when I'd openly walk past my dad carrying a 2' bong and telling him we were going to the garage to get stoned, and he would say "Okay, be safe, make sure your friend uses the spare bedroom and doesn't drive after!"

My Dad was pretty much a hardcore redneck my entire life up to 18. My parents divorced my senior year and I moved into a cabin that I watched for a guy that worked building the pipeline. My 2 younger brothers lived with my Dad, and my sister with my Mom. After the divorce my Dad must have had a midlife crisis of sorts. I was over at their house one day while my Dad was at work. My brother who is 18 months younger than me were partaking of the herb. We had this contraption that enclosed the joint in a tube with a face mask attached. My youngest brother who is 3 years younger than me didn't join in. But, we left him a joint and the mask if he wanted to try it later. He was never really into it like me and my other brother. He stashed the stuff in his dresser. My Dad the next day was looking for some clean socks the next day and discovered it. He left it on the kitchen table with a note saying "we need to talk". When my brother came home from school and saw it, he started freaking out thinking he was dead meat. It was several hours till my Dad got home from work.
When my Dad finally got home my brother was in near panic thinking of what was going to happen. Evidently my Dad had forgotten about it till he saw the evidence still sitting on the table. Then he turns to my brother and tells him he was sorry about going into his room, but he needed some socks. He then says, he doesn't understand this fascination with weed, but he wants to try it and find out. My brother thought it was some kind of twisted, sinister plot to trick him. And starts telling him how it wasn't his, and he doesn't smoke weed. To make a long story a little shorter, they sat down and fired it up. They were laughing and joking and having a good old time. Afterwards my Dad tells him it was ok, but it wasn't really his cup of tea. But he didn't want him to get in trouble at school or with the law. And if he was going to do it to do it at home.
I was stunned ! This was the same guy who would ground me if I got a "C" in school. Who told me once when we were in a boat fishing "I brought you into this world and I can take you out of it too". This story has become family folklore, and my brother never tires of telling how Ken and I nearly got him killed.  Smiley

My dad pulled a Bill Clinton on me "I tried it once in college, didn't like it and never tried it again."

(Even in Lubbock Texas, I wouldn't believe someone went to college in the 60's and hadn't at least tried it...)

I took my whole family, both parents and my sister, to see Pink Floyd at Texas Stadium (R.I.P.), and there was a definitive haze throughout the whole show. Afterwards, I have NEVER seen my dad in a better, more mellow mood... He couldn't stop talking about the music man, and the lights! Oh man the lights! That was so coooooool!

He didn't know a single Pink Floyd song, but he had a G-R-E-A-T time  just from a contact high..... He still talks about how the....er.... show..... moved him so much.....

...you might could say he had become.....

...comfortably numb...

It is really quite a skill.... Even though I've got a period of about 3 years post high school with only disjointed (heh, see what I did there?) memories, I never could master it, thus my reliance on a dugout and/or Big Bertha, my 2' bong...

Uh....yes, I broke the law 40 years ago. Man, some people  crazy2

Edit : in consideration of the sensitivity of some of our members, I feel I must divulge that I also drank a few beers, a couple daiquiris, maybe a rum and coke before the legal age of 19. Whew ! I feel a lot better getting that off my chest. (Poor Tom Petty is up there shaking his head in disallusionment)  ???

I said at the time, and say now, the "war on drugs" has done more to make people not take law enforcement seriously that anything else...

End the ridiculous Prohibition 2.0 and let law enforcement go after REAL criminals instead of people doing nothing more than smoking a freaking plant, and the respect people have for law enforcement and the laws will go up.

When people grow up seeing laws and being idiotic and stupid, of course they won't respect those who enforce idiotic and stupid laws...

Stick to the N.A.P. and we'd be FAR better off....

...but that's a rant for another day...

The Mexican product that came into use when I was in JrHi & HS was so poor, you never knew if you were getting a buzz or just hyperventilating from lack of oxygen with monster choking hits on the product.  The Colombian that came later was so much stronger, and cost a bunch more.

The alcohol was never weak (3.2 beer aside), and I had more trouble getting wasted on wine and liquor than weed. (remember Boonsfarm, Ripple, Bali Hi, MD 20/20, and the other rot gut of the day?)

I was paid as part-time handyman by a doctor several houses away, and he had a giant liquor cabinet in his basement (like 15 feet long floor to ceiling).  There was usually a bottle or three under the kitchen sink at home (which lasted for years), and taking any of that was a big risk.  So I took a big glass pop bottle, and stole small amounts of the doctor's whisky, scotch, gin, vodka, vermouth, absinthe, cognac and anything else that was already open in the same bottle.  I had some vague idea this was probably not the proper way to do it, but thieves can't be choosy.  It all tasted bad to me anyway.  So I take this vile concoction to a big party (no parents for the whole weekend) with my new (purely virgin) girlfriend and drink nasty shots of it from the bottle (and pass it around a little) (using mixers never occurred to me).  She wouldn't touch it, after smelling it (smart girl).  Later we are in the basement with her on my lap, hugging and smooching, and I don't think I passed out, but I sure went to sleep, and this did not favorably impress my girlfriend at all.  But my peers though it was pretty funny and it took a long time before I stopped hearing about it.

A buddy and I graduated midyear from HS, and I got a pint of vodka to celebrate, and we sat out in the parking lot in my VW the last morning of school and drank it at 730A on a cold December morning.  We were both wasted, and he stuck the empty bottle in his old army field jacket and proceeded to fall down in the hallway and the bottle slid down the hallway, and he was kicked out on the spot.  I managed to sit through my classes without speaking and finished my last day in a haze.

As I remember from my HS senior speech class speech on legalization of MJ, no one ever heard of a marijuana room brawl.   (I have long since been very conflicted on legalization, thinking it is a mistake, though I'm in favor of full decriminalization for say an ounce or a pound for personal use.)

I guess it's a cultural thing.  I have lost "friends" due to their participation in activities that were illegal.
That is not to suggest I am not guilty of breaking a law or two both, as a immature teen and as an immature adult.   What's that old saying about throwing stones while living in a glass house.....

I really don't care about the legalization of pot.   But, I do believe laws should be enforced or changed/removed if not enforced.   The best example I can come up with off the top of my head is speeding tickets.   Never got one I didn't deserve and didn't get caught many times I broke that law.   I never griped about getting caught, I knew I was speeding the vast majority of the time.

Feel the same way about drug offenders.   They know and make their own decisions.  Decisions have consequences.  Get caught and expect no sympathy from me and hope I am not on your jury.
