It’s time to work on the dormers on the house. Over thirty years old and the old wood is getting rotten.

So I cut out the worst of it and scabbed in exterior plywood. Today I just finished wrapping the first one with hardy panels. Holy crap that stuff will wear you out especially dragging it up on the roof.

I don’t know what happened. I used to think this was fun

All that’s left is the trim and then repainting the white

I feel the same way about wrenching on my bikes... I used to love it, now I dread it and have to force myself to go do the needful...

So many dormers on houses are all blow and no show to me. (and a PITA with roofing and upkeep)

There can't be any living space up there, so they are only good for looks, or a bit of light when you are in the attic (like once a year).  I prefer a light bulb.

I like how you fixed a useless window.   cooldude   You could just draw one back on.   Grin

Around here, that is where the yellow jackets like to set up housekeeping.

I also have crawl-around attics (2).  I blew in three feet of free insulation after I moved in, and with any luck, I'm never going up there again.   No dormers though, and no light bulbs either.

Ya Jess, it was going to be a few hundred more dollars and a whole lot more work to restore it back to useless windows. I’m going to build two pair of shutters and just nail them on and pretend there are windows behind them

Good idea.

Or, price a couple pair of vinyl shutters in the medium gray of the house/roof and save yourself the building of them and paint.

They come in all kinds of decorative or louvered designs, and can't be too spendy.

Dog house dormers, yuck.

Only good in  2nd floor rooms of cape style houses and a pita to build.

Cutting the roof structure to put one in for looks, or even natural light, is a terrible idea,  yet you see them every where.

When my house was rebuilt I did not replace the 3 dormers.

I used that money for bathroom upgrades.  cooldude

The window is still there. It’s just behind the siding now so we never need to clean it.  Some fake shutters will do

same here,  garage fold down side window is wood and rotted on bottom pretty badly on the sill part outside.  Not sure I need to replace the entire unit (window and all) or can piece in the bottom wooden sill part?  Been like that for 5 years now needs done, but since alongside house I never look at it sort of sight unseen, out of mind.  25+ years wood starts to rot regardless if treated or not.  My wooden tiered pressure treated landscape timbers also 25+ years I did as a youngster in my 20's is falling apart all along the house.  Thinking of ripping them all out and doing brick landscape pavers stacked on level by level high.  Sort of loose ambition though on home improvements being middle aged now....  I also use to wash cars monthly by hand, now lucky to take them to car wash 2x's a year even in the winter...

Phew, and here I thought I was the only one! I echo both of your sentiments! Serk, I am the exact same way! I'll raise you one more. My 2002 Silverado is sitting dead in our drive waiting for me to get psyched up enough to remove bed and replace fuel pump.  Undecided What a PIA but, I'm to cheap to pay someone to do it.

If you don't want to pull the bed, you can cut an access hole with a die grinder and do the replacement.  Then us a piano hinge and gate bolt to replace the access panel.  Not sure what kind of shape your silverado  is in, but if anything like my '03 tahoe, I doubt I would pull the bed.

Well it does make me feel better that my zip is diminished when confronted with work that needs doing that you guys feel it too. I guess it’s enough that I can still accomplish some of it even if it’s not as enjoyable as it used to be.

especially not enjoyable if get bodily injury doing it.   Cry

I have no idea what I did but the next morning a week or so ago I woke up and my inside right knee was stiff and hurting and not going away.  I roto-tilled my garden the day before and light mowing, but nothing I have not done for decades now?  10 years ago I tore my inside meniscus on the knee and suspect the same thing happened now 10 years later feels the same.  Can walk on it, but the more I walk, the stiffer the inside knee gets after sitting around.  Nothing I cannot live with, but walking with a gimp and not too far is sort of hard to do a long, long time.  Last time I let it go 10 months before requiring surgery,  guessing the same is in my cards but last time after surgery I was laid up near 1 month unable to ride the cycle and NOW is FINALLY riding season..   tickedoff
