So I ended up installing a big truck cargo net across the back of my Promaster van (vertically) so when I buy groceries and other stuff (and load it between the net and the back doors, it stays put instead of rolling all over the place back there.  It works pretty good.  (The first time I bought groceries and drove home without this setup, I had my own Easter egg hunt back there when I got home.)

But yesterday, on the way home, some dickweed rolls clear through a stop out into the street (THEN stops) (it's not a 4way stop), the guy ahead of me locks up his brakes (and still almost smashes into the dickweed).  I am not following too closely, but I also have to stomp on my brakes.  Some of my food, and two gallons of milk fly over the net and are bouncing around all over the place, and one gallon springs a leak.

The guy ahead of me is shaking his fist at the dickweed, but also checking me out in his rear view because this monster van gets real close to his rear end.

I try to remain calm in these situations, but I was sorely temped to enlist the guy ahead of me to help me calmly remove the dickweed from his car so we can take turns holding and calmly beating him about the head and shoulders in rehabilitation therapy for bad driving habits.

2 things I learned many years ago. Keep your head on a swivel. Continue looking in all directions including behind you. Try not to be the first vehicle entering an intersection, if I can I let someone else be the Guinea pig.

During the week I cross an intersection where the cross traffic is going 50 mph (many over that amount) several times.  I always have my head on a swivel to see if they are going to stop as the light changes.  There has been 4-6 accidents a month at these crossings.

There was one in which a biker was hit from behind, killed.  Driver was texting and didn't see the red light nor the guy on the bike.  Yes, she got some time to think about it.

During school bus run time I park at a gas station right by a 4 lane with a 2 lane crossing while waiting for the bus riders in the morning. At least once a week someone blows a red light and hits another vehicle.
