A flat burnt shell of a toad. Burnt completely black and stuck to the blacktop outside my garage. All the flesh was gone and the skin and skeleton was all that remained. Only about 6 feet from the garage door. As you can see from the photograph the blacktop has been burnt as well. Last night there were quite a few dry thunderstorms that blew through. BUT if it had been hit by something electrical surely the house would have felt it as well. The second photo shows the scrape marks I made with a screwdriver. Foolishly I didn't photograph the toad that had been burnt to a crisp. I threw it into the tall weeds behind my house and when I went back to find it I couldn't find it.

No clue. But I would refrain from sleeping out there for a few days. It's not clear from the pic that there was fire (more like oily residue) (or animal scat?). Or like a snake puked up a digesting toad?

I know raccoons eat damn near anything, and leave scat that is always interesting (and disgusting).

Spontaneous combustion , but then why would the skin be left behind. As for chupacabras I expect they would devour them completely.

Rooted around in the undergrowth for about 10 minutes and found the remains. It had rained overnight so the brittle stiffness had relaxed a little. The "burnt" area under the toad had no oily residue. It looked exactly the same as yesterday even after the rain. That's a penny in the second photo.

Have seen such sites numerous times. Whether you ran over the frog on something else squished it, it was smashed by a heavy weight/object. It's guts came out it's mouth. It laid on the hot asphalt baking in the sun. Although, I do like the alien theory. Rams

Hey, you could get it mounted for your mantelpiece. Let it dry out some more, then 5 coats of clear coat and done. Also make a nice conversation piece at lunch. The toads and frogs and blue racers at my place are about the only things I don't eradicate. And nice bees. The toads and frogs are often out at night stealthy hunting creepy crawlers in the outdoor low power LED yellow lights around my house. I have to be careful not to step on them.

Next to my box turtle shell I found on the top deck rail at my previous house.
