It was on a Harley rented from 11am today to 11am tomorrow

But for most of you today is tomorrow as I am on the big island Hawaii

We did a sunset sail from where we ate dinner at Lava Lava Club at Waikoloa Village near Waimea, HI

This is our 43rd anniversary present to ourselves, it was 11hrs from JFK

ChrisJ I now understand what you are talking about as Kuwaii (sp?) was pretty darn nice..  We stayed in Poupii and visited a magnificent place in Princeville, used to be the St Regis now the One Hotel.  It is an absolute must see for the views even if out of the way The Arizona memorial was very sobering  Not a fan of Waikiki as too many people crowded in small area

For the rest of the week I will be content just to sit at the state beach and soak up the sun and mild waves   Beach had maybe 20 people on the whole thing, my kind of relaxation

Then back to the grind in the Bronx and a 14 hour day on Monday.   Seriously after these 2 weeks retirement is beckoning very strongly

edit

did some riding this morning and turned  down into a really long beachfront road after a nice windy down hill stretch.  Got off to look at the water at a public beach access.  The Heritage softtail has no windshield or windscreen so the brief highway riding was not so pleasant after owning an Interstate for over two decades.  But for local riding it performed well and I did like the Harley floorboards a lot  Brought back memories of my 750 Vulcan and why I put a street shield ex on it after my first ride to Lake George 4 hrs away.. The boss did not like the Heritage at all and stayed home this morning

Riding from here on the Kohala Coast (west side?) across the pass between the 13,000' mountains to Hilo and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Rainbow Falls and Punalu'u black sand beach in morning. A dirty job but someone has to support the economy

Enjoy Oss, take the time and soak it all in.

Hope you get time for a luau, some shaking grass skirts and maybe an authentic native tattoo, even if it’s only a temporary one.

Stay safe and enjoy and hope your flight home is drama free and smooth.

Ya, there’s nothing quite like the sand and the beaches in Hawaii. That’s why I don’t even go to the beach in Florida. Can’t compare and I am spoiled.

This is my fav beach on Maui. There’s never 20 people on it and it’s a Mile long

Congrats, Oss. I did that same thing in 1985. I was in Alaska that same summer. I much preferred AK.

I know you don't want to leave your clients in the lurch, but being retired (so far) has just meant swapping the grind of a job for so many other things - you'll wonder "how did I ever get all this stuff done while I was working ? "  Smiley

On the plus side - you can be there easier for those who need it (my own situation right now), as well as take care of yourself. And vacations become a "when I have the money put away for it".

I’ve been on quite a few beaches throughout the years, even here in NJ we have some picturesque views but I have to say that sure is a pretty picture.

I was raised on an island and love the water (and swimming, sailing).

But after having skin cancer cut off my head, face, neck, back and arms, the sun (and all beaches) are not my friend.

Long sleeves and sunblock in all sunny riding too.   crazy2

Have fun out there Evan.   Smiley

Congratulations, Evan!

I marked off HI years ago on a rented Harley on Maui.  Still need AK...

Glad you got the chance to ride in Hawaii.

Your message brings back a memory.  I only have 48 states in my "Riding" list.  Hawaii and Alaska are the two missing.  But what I forgot was that back in the summer of 1973 I was stationed on the USS Patrick Henry. I was in the Blue Crew and when not on board my Boat, I was forced to live on Ford Island in Hawaii.

One of my shipmates purchased a motorcycle and he was showing it off outside of our "barracks" one afternoon.  And he let me ride it.  I did not do well but I did ride it a few feet before having to "dismount".  I figure that does not really count as a "ride" but as I said... you message brings back some fun memories.

Got to Hawaii compliments of Uncle Sugars canoe club but I'm also a member of the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club. Only thing I got to drive while in Hawaii was a Navy deuce and a half. But I do recall the Sheer Beauty of Hawaii while there!  cooldude RIE SAFE.

Riding all 50 states is a really unbelievable task, congratulations!

I’ve spent some time on Maui a few years back, just a fantastic experience.  For the first few days there I just thought all the service folks were just really well trained with enthusiasm.  After a few days one realizes they are all just really happy.  Impressive.

The snorkeling on area beaches was the best.  Rent some good gear and take advice on where to go to stay away from the crowds.

Bonnie and I just made it home   What a beautiful state Hawaii is. Met so many folks who just visited and never went back to the mainland   cooldude  Why did I wait 69 yrs to go there?

5 flights in 2 weeks, longest was 11hrs plus some minutes.

Work tomorrow will blow chunks... And I am 6 hrs behind NY in my head   Have to try to get to sleep soon even tho my brain thinks it is 230 pm not 830pm

But seeing how this trip emptied those mason jars like watching the wheel spin when gas is over 5 bucks
I gotta do what I gotta do

Evan - it's called the "Paradise Tax"  for a reason. Smiley  Very little is actually made in HI - QED nearly everything is imported. It was true in 1994 when I visited, and it's probably still true....

Yes, Hawaii is a beautiful place.  I have been there twice and didn't rent a bike either time.  SMH.
