gidday….
Have a 99 Valkyrie with 42,000 on her ,…
….as of yesterday the starter was working just fine,no grinding no misses ,normal ops…
Went to start her this am ,push the start button…nothing….no starter turn over completely dead…….checked battery and connections ..all good …..before i pull the starter ,any suggestions on what to check…..I’m wondering if it could be the …”starter magnetic switch”……..anyone had issues with that???
Battery seems fine, horn lights etc all work fine,….ive noticed when the battery gets low ,the starter clicks due to not having enough juice to turn it over …….as of now not even that….charged battery and nothing…
Thanks in advance for any suggestions ……..cheers shagger

I forgot to add….the battery seems to check out good with a battery tester….bat I know it’s old…….charging the battery to a supposed full charge…I turn their key on and check the battery with a battery check ,it shows “LOW”….I m thinking maybe the battery just doesn’t have enough puff to excite the starter?”???

I agree, sounds like the starter button needs the maintenance done. But get a new battery and quit punishing your alternator

Quick check. Put a 12V jump dirrectly to the starter. If it spins , check switch and clean all connections.

Before you do any of the above, check for hydrolock. Remove the spark plugs outdoors, put the bike in great and roll the bike to turn the engine over. If fuel squirts out of the plug hole(s), you were hydrolocked. That must be fixed before you do major engine damage.
If you are sure the engine turns over freely, the above would not be necessary. If not, contributing to hit the starter before clearing the cylinders could be $$$$$$.

Does your headlight go out like it should when you hit the button? When mine wouldn’t crank one day it ended up being the solenoid, Honda calls it the starter switch in the parts list. It green and two cables connect to it and if I remember correctly there is a fuse and a connector with 4(?) small guage wires. It’s behind the rh side cover. Mine was melted. Oddly enough shortly after this the identical part in my 750 Magna did the exact same thing. Neither blew a fuse or any other type of self preservation.
