I had a blowout on my rear tire a long way from home. With it being a saturday night there was no way to get a tire, especially because bike shops are closed Sunday and Monday; so I've had no choice but to go to the darkside! I found a 205/65/16 and I'm wondering no matter the amount of rubbing, should I be ok to make it home 65 miles away?
From my experiences in life, the darkside is usually not a good place so I don't plan on staying! Do I need to do the mod?
-- 97 standard , 1 up, no weight, standard shocks on the highest setting.

Well how did you get it mounted (with bike shops closed), at a car tire place?
Higher psi is better than lower for rubbing. Look for the max psi printed on the tire sidewall and put that in. It should get you home OK.
What car tire did you get?

To some the dark side is a flawless transfer, to others it's a learned experience and to some its "hell no"
Give it some time.
Nut mod is probably required.
If your saying it's rubbing, you should probably not ride it till it's not, unless you can control it by speed and PSI.

I've got to say that, in my experience, PSI is irrelevant to any "rubbing". I've run 205/65-16 size for several hundred thousand miles. The ONLY rubbing has been the nut cage. I run 26psi all the time. This has been on all three Valks at my house.

Go with a 195, no rubbing. 40 psi.

I run the 205/65-16, zero rubbing and lower rpms about 200. 30k miles now on the tire. sometime this yr will need a new one.

Agreed, PSI may not make any difference with the fender, I can't say, because I did the nut cage on both my Tourers and my Interstate when I installed the first Dark Side on them. Is the OP riding a Standard? It may make a diff in the swingarm clearance. Tire brand could make a diff also, maybe. 26psi is on the low side, so if you didn't/don't have an issue, most others would probably not either. |

Yes. Rubbing on the right side of the tire. Not severe, but enough that I wanted to stop it. |
