ok here goes:
2003 standard,  my  paw in law owns this but i  have been riding it for about a year.  He is not able to ride because of his left leg (medical problems) I was just wondering how and how  much it would be to set it  up for him.  I have seen some kind of kit that you bolt on to the rear that kinda makes a  trike but with the rear tire still on.  also someone said that i could get an automatic tranny for it.  not sure if it exists...

any help here would be great,
thanks in advance

I don't know of anybody that makes an auto tranny for the Valk.  There very well could be one - but I've never heard of it.

There are a bunch of reputable trike shops and kit manufacturers out there.  You could go the temporary, removable route like you mentioned where the rear wheel stays on the bike.  Or, you could go the permanent trike route where the entire rear end of the bike gets modified.  Your needs as well as your budget will determine which approach is best for you.

Just to get you started, try doing an internet search for Voyager, Champion, Roadsmith, and/or Lehman.  Good luck!

wewaman.....google voyager trike kits.  voyager makes a kit that converts a two wheel valkyrie to a 4-wheel bike (the back wheel stays on the bike-you just back the bike into the conversion to hook up, and you pull the bike back out to go back to 2-wheel mode.).

Voyager kit.     Taking sharp corners is almost forbidden without slinging one of the rear wheels in the air.

There is nothing there to give when ya try to lean into a curve.

40 MPH curves are about 25 max, square corners are less than 15 mph unless ya sling a wheel.

hi  i  demo the voyager kit at wing ding  years ago   post is right turns  at normal speeds are impossiable   but its a cheaper way to go  you can find a used unit    if you go the full trike route its about 12000 to 14000 depending who does it -- i have had a real trike for 10 years and i love it --i have bad knees and wanted to still ride --and i do    alot    you keep this bike and buy him a used trike  you would save some money ----  good luck !!!

I've got a friend whose dad has an electric shifter. Up and down buttons mounted on left handlebar, small solenoid mounted down by shifter. His bike is a goldwing trike. He also has a bad left knee that made riding hard for him until he triked the bike and added the shifter.

Hey all thanks for all this info.
Im not sure of the final destination of the bike so I dont want to trike it just in case it ends up with me.  He said that I could ride it but that he wanted it back when his leg got good enough to ride.  So far it hasnt but that could change, I hope for him.  He lives in Va. and me in Fl.  So he has bought ME a 84 wing so that when I return the Valk I will be able to ride home on my 84 wing.  I don't blame him for wanting to keep the valk. it's such a wonderful ride.  I asked him about trikeing the wing for him but NOOOOOOO  he loves his valk... DUH who doesn't.  Oh well again, THANK YOU everyone for the info I will look into the options. cooldude

I remembered seeing this before, and a quick forum search for "landing gear" (luckily I rememberd the name) found this thread and link:
http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,2870.0.html
http://www.trikealternative.com/retractatrike.shtml

Plus, a retireee from work got a deal on a set of the original landing gear for his wing, and a yahoo search got this link:
http://landingear.com/gl1500.php

Neither specifically mention Valkyries, but an email could get you that info.

This looks like it would help with his leg without being an actual trike. He'll still need the air/electric shifter though...

Hope that helps.

I really don't think he'd be happy for long on a Voyager.  It takes a lot of work on some bikes to get them dialed in, and I've heard of the mounting bolts breaking often enough that everything had to be welded up.

A couple of companies will sell real trike kits direct to the consumer.  Costs a lot less then having a dealer do it, but you have to be decent mechanics.

A real trike is a gas.  Once he gets used to it, he'll be leaving all the 2 wheelers behind in the twisties.   Grin

I think if I ever wanted to go back to a trike, I'd sell my dragon, and buy a used trike.  I just don't think I could cut her up...........

thanks again for all of the response's all were very helpful.  Mr.bubbles I searched for and found an electric shifter from www.kliktronic.co.uk I emailed them and the next day i got a call from Gail in Palmetto, Fl.  She was a wealth of knowledge not only about the shifter but also on the trike part.  She had a voyager on her bike and said that it was very hard to steer so she had to spend another $1400.00 to have her rake adjusted not worth it she said.  she told me to check out www.triggtrikekits.com that is whats on her bike now and she loves it.  She said the shifter is about $1000.00 and the trike kit is about $4000.00  Gail was a pleasure to talk to and very very helpful. both of these items can be ordered from her.
Gails telephone #'s are Home-941-723-9817  Mobil-941-932-6890  She mentioned disabled and Military discounts and help.  I will be forwarding all this info on to my Pa-in Law

THANKS AGAIN for being sooooooo helpful everyone,
