As many of you know I live in MI.
We have some great riding in Wastenaw, Livingston, Iosco, Mason, and Ionia counties.
These riding areas are nowhere near the following dangerous communities, nor the great areas of northern MI.

Most of that list of towns you made mention of I delivered or picked up at while driving 18 wheeler. Don't rekemember the exact exit off I-94 in Detroit but the truck ahead of me got 3 bullet holes in it while I was parked behind him. NO more sleep that night. RIDE SAFE.

Here's the thing. Even if there was absolutely no crime in any of the aforementioned locales, they still wouldn't be worth riding in. Almost no "fun to ride" roads anywhere near any of them.

The only good thing I remember while in Detroit working for GM attending a week long seminar was going out at nights having deep dish pizza and heading on over to Canada at a strip club named Cheetahs.    Grin

What I prefer like most is upper UP and the Lake Michigan shoreline visiting all those state parks with nice sand/water and most not too crowded.

We were in a hurry to get to Wisconsin that evening before the forest rats came out, so I didn't make it to Copper Harbor (BIG regrets). But we did get to the Gay Bar which is almost there.  Cheesy
Riding a Nomad at the time. Got to Ironwood just before dark.
