Just posted my farewell to my old Honda Shadow forum. Loved my 1100 Aero and she was a pretty sweet ride. Was bittersweet when I exchanged the title for a wad of cash. I have been in the market for a Valkyrie for a few years, but, was very happy with my Aero and never seemed to find a deal so good that I could not pass up.....until a month ago! As much as I enjoyed my Aero and the classic stylings, once I threw my leg over the Valk and test rode it the decision was made! I toyed with the thought of keeping both of them, but, decided that the Aero would not get much riding time and I should let someone else enjoy her.
I have only been here a short time but can see already that this forum has some really nice folks and I look forward to meeting up with some of you for rides.
I am in Nashville which is smack dab in the middle of Tennessee. Lots of nice roads here and the surrounding areas. Rode my Aero to Ft Walton Beach over the summer and can't wait for my first long trip on the Valk.
I wish I had a cool "handle" like some of you have, but, JD suits me just fine....hell, I've been called much worse by my ex wives :-/

JD, point her north and in less than a tankful of fuel, you'll be surrounded by Valkyries.   cooldude  We can make that happen.

Don't let anyone run you off. There are a bunch of good guys here that are overly opinionated and some peoples feelings get hurt, they don't mean anything by it. You have a great looking bike, hope to see you on the road sometime.

Wow! Beautiful bike! Welcome to the best Valkyrie forum bar-none. I live out west so maybe we can meet at Inzane. If you haven't looked into it yet, check it out. There's still plenty of time to plan for Inzane 2015. Inzane is a gathering of Valkyrie owners. This year it will be in Spearfish, SD. A beautiful location. Check it out! I always thought the Honda shadow was a great bike both in a ride and looks. It would be great to own one especially for those shorter rides. The Valkyrie is wonderful at everything she does and always draws attention. Honda just makes great motorcycles that's all there is to it.again, welcome to our board. Hope to see you some day.

Welcome JD and welcome to Louisiana ifn's youiz comin' dis way. I saw that bike listed for sale and wanted to buy it but I'm Valkyrie poor and I need to be able to sleep peacefully 'cause my bride might cut me in my sleep if I buy another one.LOL  My bride loves Nashville and we both love country music so you can stay at my place for Mardi Gras while I see the sights in Nashville. Yaaaay, sounds like a deal to me. You can get with Mac and Tom and that crew near you. They are Valkoholics to the nth degree.

that is a great looking Valk you bought, I can see why you didn't want to pass it up with the special paint job and chrome goodies, well done up indeed.  Looks sharp.  I wouldn't have passed that bike up either if at a reasonable price.

Like a lot of us, we traded up to our Valks over the years, most coming from another smaller Honda.  For me, it was a 1984 Honda Magna since 4 is better than 2 and now 6 is better than 4.  I loved that bike was nicely appointed with lockable rear top luggage carrier, leatherlike saddlebags, windshield, hwy. pegs, and rear passenger tall backrest, but sold it in 1997 for what I could easily get for it now (1500 bucks) and had kids and bought a fishing boat instead. Now, I rarely go fishing and instead ride my Valk.  Went bikeless for 10 years from 1997 to 2007 and should really sell the fishing boat but isn't hurting much in depreciation under cover inside storage not being used hardly at all the past 7-8 years.  After this winter though I really should get it out on the lakes and make sure the engine still runs after winterizing it several years ago, just gotta quit riding the Valk and working so much now.

Thats a beautiful Valk. I came here from Shadows as well. I own two 1100 Shadows (a Spirit and a Sabre) and wanted a Valk for a long time. When I came across a good deal on one I couldn't turn it down so now I own all three.

Welcome, JD.  For a first time Valker, you picked a nice one.
I went from a Honda CB500 to no bike for 20 years, then to  a Valk Interstate. It was quite a jump in power but I don't regret it a bit.

As others have said, try to make it to next years Inzane in Spearfish. You won't regret it. Besides, we want to see that bike up close!

Don't ride that thing on a sunny day! Guess you won't need to purchase any chrome! Beauty. and welcome to this place of anything goes. Probably one of the busiest boards around. There are some here that pretend to know something and no one is opinionated. Pretty laid back place to be.   Roll Eyes

Welcome to the madness! You certainly have a beauty there. Middle TN has quite a few experienced Valk riders, and many of us have become pretty decent mechanics along the way in case you have questions, because most of the shops around here have no experience working on our fat girls.

I'm just a couple miles southwest of you in Williamson County, so when you plan to head out toward the Leipers Fork/Fernvale area don't hesitate to holler and we'll burn up some back roads!

Up in the Fork a lot! Grandparents lived there till they died. I remember when Pucketts was actually a grocery store! Love riding on the Trace.

I need to take you up on the mechanic thing. I just bought it a little over a month ago and would like to have it fully serviced by someone who knows what they are doing. I suspect it had sat for a while by the smell of the gas when I started it up. Have trouble starting now that it's cold out. Thinking it may need the carbs cleaned. I put a can of seafoam in and ran it a while. Had no trouble running her up from north Alabama when I bought it.

Yeah. That's what's supposed to happen. It fires up and then dies almost immediatly! Ran my battery down trying to keep it running yesterday.  Once it's warm it seems to run fine.

Be sure you really do have the choke (enricher) actually fully on.  Press it until you think it's on and then press it again hard.  It will go further another half inch.  It's really not on until that second push.  It shouldn't die with the enricher and idle speed increaser engaged.

Willow just gave you good advice. True story. When I bought my first Interstate in 2001, I bought it from a major dealer, Chicago Cycle. They were one of the biggest players in the Midwest in terms of number of bikes sold. When they were prepping my bike, it took them about 7 tries to start it and keep it running. I was thinking, "Geez, this isn't making a very good impression." Turns out the kid doing the prepping wasn't pushing the choke lever down far enough either. The bike would start and die--same symptom you described.   Try what Willow said and see what happens.
