If possible:

Could a restriction be placed on posting to the classified board.
The restriction would require that a VRCC member have some minimum number of post before posting to the classified board.

I keep seeing classified postings as the 1st,2nd,3rd post for a member.

As a VRCC member that has sold and purchased from the classified board this causes me some concern.
Are they just here to sell something?
Can I trust the posting and seller?

I have had no problems with the classified board, but I have chosen to ignore classified board postings that are from someone with less that 10 postings.

Just because they have only one post, does not mean that what they are selling is not wanted or junk or a scam.  More classified is better.  But when the post count is 1, 2, 3.... just exercise more caution in your dealings.  Caveat emptor (buyer beware).

There is always some degree of risk in using any classified adds to buy (or sell) stuff.

Of course if anyone gets cheated/lied/scammed, they should take the time to post about it and ID the seller for everyone, if remedies are NOT forthcoming.

Jess offers good advice.

There are a fair number of people who join the message board for the sole purpose of buying or selling an item.

I've struggled with the validity of that as I would certainly have more trust in someone I know has been active with the VRCC.  Then  consider that the very item I may disallow because it's a new or inactive member may be just the bargain or opportunity that one of our members was looking for.  Tough choice.

The bottom line is buyer (or seller) beware.  When responding to an online ad consider how much you do or don't know about the poster and set your level of trust accordingly.

I bought some floor boards for my wife a couple years go. Posted what I was looking for and within a day had an email with pictures.didnt know the guy at all. Told him I wanted them and I'd get a postal money order the next day. We agreed on the price and within 3 days they were at my front door. Told him I sent the money order out the same day I got it. Also told him he was very trusting in people. I wouldn't trust anyone like that unless I personally knew them. But even if you know someone doesn't mean you wont get screwed over as one of our finest members found out last year. But all in all I had a great deal with this guy

With ONLY one post AND that post being on the classifieds I would be-skeptical at best. But the first thing I would ask is where one post calls home and then see if a board member is close and would do a brother a solid!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.
