I think the prices are artificially high.  I'm about to spend >$400 bucks for two freakin' tires with almost no tread that will last 10k mi if I'm am lucky.

That's my opinion and I like it!

Yeah....I'm on the fence about CTs.  I really like to lean pretty hard when riding alone.  I'm chickenchit I guess.  Roll Eyes
Considereing buying another pair if Avons since they seem to stick so good.  Would buy Conti's but they don't make Valk sizes.

Part of the pride of ownership I guess.
I can put Michelins on my Suburban for just about the cost of Valk tires.
I can change 3 cars oil for the cost of the Valk  oil change.
I can take Tammy to lunch/dinner/breakfast in Deming, stay in a decent motel, and recharge her peace of mind with helmet time.
Thats a bargain to me.

Don't be chickenshit...put a car tire on and your Valk will have super powers heretofore unknown to you.

Only $400!  Wow.  Congrats on finding the bargain.   Smiley

I hear a lot of folks crying about tires that only last 10K.  I can't identify.  I've never changed a tire at that age.  I know there are differences in the abrasiveness of road surfaces, but I get over twenty from a rear and more from a front.  My favorite made-for-an-automobile tire gets about the same and, by the way, leans just as well as an Avon.

Be surer your inflation is right.  Mine stays about 42 in the front and 45 in the rear.  I don't check the inflation as often as I should.

OK > $500.

I'm seriously considering an Austone or Dunlop Taxi Tire.....I wonder of the Dunlop is that much better for the higher price?

My advice is try to find someone willing with a car tire to switch bikes with you on a ride to see if you might like it or not when leaning into the corners.  Some hate it, some don't mind it.  10K on a front tire is really horribly low mileage and so for the rear as well for most riders.

If I rode over 5K miles per year only,  I'd consider getting a rear car tire as well.

I do agree though, MC tires are overpriced for what you get out of them at 1/2 the size of most normal sized car tires.

And that advice is only valid if you believe all "car tires" are the same.  They're not.  If you want to try one out try one that matches what you think you might want and test ride it for a couple of hours or more, long enough to get over your initial assumptions and fears.

They each have their own feel and differ, some greatly, in how much they do not handle like a purely rounded motorcycle tire.

MC tires are made very different. Much more precision, stiffer sidewalls and low volume sales mean higher profit margins. I keep my Cobras at 42 and 46 and get over 20 K on a rear.

I lean hard, scrap the pegs, 1up/2up, etc. Car Tire handles like a charm.. 100% confident D/S'ing. You can't go wrong with the Taxi Tire.

Additionally I like my Shinko SE890 Journey Touring tire on the front. I think you will find them much less expensive than the other options out there. Good Luck.  cooldude

DS'ers will hate me.......after much deliberation I have decided to try Metz 880 Marathons front and rear.  If I don't get decent mileage after meticulously monitoring my TP I will prolly go the Taxi route next time.

LOL!  The nice thing about Valkyrie riders is we don't tend to hate anyone based solely upon his tire choice.

Honestly I have two Valkyries that I ride, three if you count my wife's.  They do not have matching rear tires.   Wink

You'll like the Metz, they stick well in the corners. Wanna get the best possible mileage out of 'em? Invest in a TPMS. Really helps with keepin' pressures optimal. Worth the money, seriously!
As for a walk on the darkside, I still believe hard compound CT's are bad. I look for a UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grading) of 320 or less with at least a V speed rating (prefer W or better) & a load rating in the 90's (I'm runnin' a 94). This combination gives you a good sticker tire with a stiff enough sidewall to keep it from wallowing at the lower pressure most darksiders run.
Here are the only two I've found that meet all my criteria....
http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/riken/205%252F55-16+riken+riken+raptor+z+++94w.html
http://www.onlinetires.com/products/vehicle/tires/hankook/205%252F55-16+hankook+ventus+v12+evo+k110+94w+bw.html
Prices are so good I don't mind the mileage (10-12K). I'm in there doin' driveline anyway.
Always ran the Metz 880 up front with the Riken Raptor.
Results, hard core crankin' & bankin' baby!
