You know I'm a computer idiot. Been trying for 2 months to get Netflix. Still ain't got it.

1. Bought Google Chrome cast thingy
2. Bought Apple TV thingy
3. Bought smart TV
4. Called everyone [ google, apple, vizio, netflix, including internet provider
5. Everyone blames everyone else.

I think tomorrow everything gets returned and subscription gets cancelled.  $800 for 2 minutes of House of Cards first episode. Thats a real friggin' good deal.

See, just a rant. Nope, don't feel any better. I gotta punch something.

I don't know what you have for an internet provider, but I don't think it matters. if you have a smart tv, it should have apps installed for services like Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, etc.

The Netflix subscription part doesn't really have anything to do with your tv at all. Go online and Google Netflix new subscriber, it should pop right up. It's like any other subscription. You set up a payment arrangement and create username and password.

Then go to your tv and select Netflix, it'll walk you through it. Word of advice, choose a short username/email. The entry screen is a pain.

Once that's done, you're good to go. You can access Netflix from any device, anywhere, as long as you have your login info.

If it were that easy I'd would have been watching it for the past 2 months.
I've been 'walked' thru this more times than I can count. I only have 10 fingers and 10 toes. Its everyone else's fault. It does appear to be Time Warner, but, everything else [ TV and computer] works fine.

we had to get one of those wireless router signal bouncing thingies and write the secret password on a bunch of places for when it forgets what its supposed to do like when power goes out or it gets unplugged by accident

Now everything works if I can remember which input to use

HDMIV for regular TV
HDMI for the amazon stick thingy
the thingy on the top left of screen for dvd
the netfilx button for the netflix

We have a BIG basket now for the remotes

You are in my prayers for a happy ending Patrick

$800 for 2 minutes of House of Cards first episode.

We've watched both seasons. Bought the first DVD. Then our hand-me-down DVD
player konked out, so we bought one that has Amazon and Netflix and you-tube
and a bunch of other stuff built in, and it connects to our home wifi network.
And it cost, like, $65...

Screwing around with Amazon and Netflix from the computer seems easier to
me than trying to tell them what to do with the tee-vee remote.

They sink a lot lower than choking the dog after the first few minutes BTW...

It took me 5 minutes to sign up for netflix on our new smart tv. Watch it every day. Hard to say what the problem is for you but sounds like the same thing our wii started doing. Use to watch netflix on it until it would never connect. Good luck.

Wrap your hands well so you don't suffer permanent injury.

Something moderately old is a good choice.  Not so old that it'll die from the beating but not so new as to be able to put up a legitimate resistance.

Be careful, but I think you're on the path to a viable solution.   Smiley

This is true....We use the laptop to search for shows/movies on Netflix. Using the remote is a royal PITA. Once you find what you're looking for, just save it to favorites or put it in queue, it shows up immediately on your tv....

ignorance is bliss

I used to believe in that statement until I realized a profound truth...

If that were true, wouldn't there be a LOT more blissful people around?

Yes, it's hard to equate ignorant bliss with the fact that we humans are a complaining, whining, temperamental species.

Henry David Thoreau had some pretty good ideas.  A bit too utopian for me, but still, simplifying your life as much as possible has it's benefits.

I have a 10 year old grandson that could ride over if you buy his gas and Big Red soda pops. He only rides a 70 so gas will be cheap. I'm sure he could punch about 5 buttons and you'd have Netflix at least a day.

No promises on the next day when you're all alone again.

do you or a family member or close neighbor have an XBOX?  If so, hook it up and have anyone who plays the xbox configure netflix on it.  Will need your IP address/password to get in, but should work as though should your smart tv, etc.

My guess is maybe your internet service provider has it blocked or you have something else blocking netflix in your configuration for some odd reason.  It shouldn't be that hard to connect.

OK, thanks guys.

It appears the problem is solved !

I couldn't get it to work with all the aftermarket thingys. So I bought a smart TV. 3 smart TVs actually.  The first 2 [ Visio ] were apparently defective. Just hooked up a Samsung and am well into the first episode of House of Cards.

Thanks again for putting up with a PITA. I'm a happy man !

I guess I should say that the first Visio was missing some pieces while the second would continually shut itself off and cause it to lose everything I had entered. The Samsung is working and was pretty easy to set up.
