Heard a local NY story this morning about a family suing this police dept. for the death of their son.
Son was caught driving intoxicated. For some unknown reason, the cops did NOT arrest the kid and drove him home. The kid later went out in the parents car, still intoxicated, and crashed and died.
Parents are suing because cops didn't arrest their son in the first place. Had they arrested the kid, he wouldn't have been able to go back out in the parents car and wouldn't have crashed.
Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, ……………..

No good deed goes unpunished.
I can remember the days when the police would take you home. It doesn't seem to happen anymore, maybe thats why.

Many cops are coming forward now and divulging that their jobs can be messed with in several ways, including changing of hours, changing their work locations making commuting bad, not approving requested time off, etc., if they don't accumulate a certain amount and certain types of arrests and summonses. This has always been rumored, but now it's being spoken about openly. I'm sure that has something to due with it as well. Andy Taylor would have driven the kid home.

So if I get drunk at home and the wife kicks me out because her parents are coming soon for a visit and I drive to a local pub and drink some more then the bartender takes my keys away and calls me a cab who drops me off at a house not my own and I go in and have sex with not my wife and she gets pregnant even though I used a condom and then she wants child support and I don't even remember having this sex and she don't even know my name who gets sued and for what.

These DAYS with a LOT of folks waiting for First Responders to fart sideways AND the courts awarding I M H O ridiculous amounts of money on even more ridiculous claims makes one wonder in the first place why one chooses to "Protect And Serve" ? When the excretement hits the whirling air circulator They want the first responders. When they are breaking the law-not so much! G-Man-maybe you could keep us updated on this one please?? RIDE SAFE.

I wouldn't take a cop's job right now. The responsibility and the risk is just way too high. And in today's climate, you can't count on your mayor to or even your president to stand by you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrP9LPA7Ueg

Cops should counter the idiot parents for; 1) Child endangerment resulting in death. 2) Lack of restraint of an intoxicated danger to self and general public. 3) Felony stupidity with probable priors.

Dang, sounds like you are speaking from real world experience here???????? I remember growing up in our small town the neighbor up the street, who was our small town cop, use to take drunks (even my dad) home from the local bars after having too much. Years later now after he died I work with his daughter. She told me he got fired from being the police chief for NOT writing enough tickets.
