Nice, hoser going old school.

congrats, did I miss the mileage on it?

What worries me is the year with carbs being gummed up, but looks sharp if runs well.

Carbs are not hard to clean on that ole girl.

Looks like it might be a low mileage one.

Congratulations on it.

I have a buddy who used to have one.

He rode the pants off of it.

Just rode around the block, I assume it ain't got the lady's horses, It is taller, but shorter, about 200 lbs lighter.  The four banger exhaust is not as smooth as the six banger, stock exhaust,  but has no problem accelerating.  It will be a while before I can ride much, I still have some looseness in my shoulder and rib cage.  Starting physical therapy next week.  Milage is 75K, not bad for a 30 year old bike.  It has been well cared for.   Smiley  Hoser

I can't help but snoop around your garage. Is that your Cub as well? As a member of the VJMC I'd love to have one; along with a naked wing, and an inline 4 of some kind, and a 2-stroke twin or triple something as well. As long as I have room in my garage I'm always looking. Beautiful bikes!  cooldude

That bike brings back a lot of memories.  Drove one of those 84 Standards for 10 years back and forth to the Navy base in Norfolk every day unless there was snow on the ground.  Great bike and pretty rare to find in nice shape.  They did not make many of the 1984 1200 standards and the only year they made a 1200 standard.

Good looking! And except for the Sporty mufflers, unmolested.  They are definite keepers:

The only things to watch are 1) the alternator - the stator is in the oil, and longer oil change intervals seems to shorten the stator's life, and 2) the rear wheel bearing flange - this is a real POS, and except for the last 2 years of GL1200 production (86-87), every bearing flange will eventually fail.  They just did not allow enough meat in the flange, and it goes egg-shape, resulting in a rear wheel wobble.  The factory fix was a steel band pressed around the aluminum; they only warranteed the fix to ORIGINAL purchasers.  The current fix is a GL1500 rear wheel...  cooldude PM me if you need more info.

The GL1200 HP/Tq is 95/78, as opposed the Valks 100/100.  But that 200lb weight difference is felt.  The GL1200 is definitely more nimble feeling.  I also shift the GL less than the Valk, even though the published gear ratios are almost identical; I think it's a by-product of the Valk having more road hugging weight... I'm thinking of buying a café wing GL1100 after the new year....if it's still there.

Nice wing...and I assume that one is yours.  Info on the café fairing please.  What do you think of it, how is it for wind protection....and where'd you get it?

I rescued the 1981 Passport from a 10 year  garage sleep, had 346 miles on it.  Traded a lawn mower for it.  It's got a couple thousand miles on it now, around town stuff and grandson miles around the yard. It will run about 45 WFO.   Hoser  cooldude

BF - That would be a fiberglass Parabellum Scout from a few decades ago.  They (Parabellum) still make them, but now in ABS only.
They are simply awesome.  Excellent wind protection without buffeting.  I use the shorty shield in summer, and a taller one in winter and long trips.  I had been through about 5 other flavors of café type fairings, and most were worse than no fairing at all.  How good?  I have them on 3 bikes.

I actually thought of putting one on the Valk, but I am not sure it would scale right; the Valk is pretty massive.  Would also have to change headlight bucket, headlight mounts, etc. If I get this other Valk I'm looking at though, I may just hold it up and see what it looks like. Roll Eyes

Unless I found the wrong site, I went to Parabellum's site and didn't find anything for old wings.
