14 Years ago last night, I (we) rushed our 6 month old puppy to Metropolitan Veterinary who was unresponsive, defecating and vomiting everywhere. We threw credit cards at the Doctors to save our friend, and newest  addition to our family.

He had till Friday, when our lines of credit ran out. After many tests, x-rays, Vitamin – K intramuscularly, and several blood transfusions, he finally was stable.

Over the next 14 years, he became my closes friend. Always happy to see me, no matter what my mood or temperament may have been, he was there for me.

He lived up to his name. From swimming in the Chesapeake Bay, riding in the Dune Buggy, chasing squirrels, learning to swim by “rescuing” my ex from the pool, running to the farm with his brother (Duke) to tangling with the neighborhood skunk or herding deer – he was always up for the adventure.

Last night. 14 years to the day. We took our friend back to Metropolitan with what appeared to be a stroke. It turned out to be a mass on his spleen that ruptured.

While the decision to not proceed with treatment was relatively easy, saying goodbye was difficult.

To Ulysses Augustus Marinakos, chaser of squirrels, deer and all woodland creatures, savior of damsels in distress, and friend.

You are with your brother and family in a different place. I await our reunion when the time comes.

Safe Travels my friend. You are missed

Damn gnats

That was a great eulogy

Dogs have a special place in heaven where every squirrel is just a step slower.

You did the right thing and you know it.

I had to put my German Shepherd girl down in Oct and you're right, she was for sure my best friend. The hole left healed slightly with the addition of this little boy shortly thereafter. He'll be 6 months old on Christmas day and is already over 60 pounds and my new best friend.

I've had to put down four of our canine pets over the years.  It's always difficult.  But after reading that, I had to scratch the back of the pup that's laying in my lap.  They always make the world a better place.

Always hard to lose a pal. I've gone through it a couple of times myself. Lovely words that you wrote.
