Not a Valk......been missing having a truck since I bought the Kia.......so, I bought this from a Cousin......a 2001 Ford Ranger 5 speed,  3.0L V6.....Edge package......Just wanted something to haul the trash off in without having to hook up my 5'x12' trailer every time......I can throw my weed eater and backpack blower and rakes, and etc. in the bed when it's time to go mow at the Wife's Grandma's house without worrying about getting gas/oil in the back of my Kia.....it's something I don't have to worry about getting scratched up...... cooldude

Nice.

Those small trucks are getting hard to find.  Especially with the V6.

And already pre-dented.   Wink

Those little Rangers will run forever with basic maintenance and regular oil changes.

Good to have a truck! Not sure how my belly would fit between the steering wheel and the seat though.

the door incident occurred...

-Mike

He didn't do it.....

He bought it from his Niece's boyfriend....the niece had a baby and they had to get a 4 door truck for the baby for when he has to take it places.....the niece's dad owns a small garage, so he changed the plugs, wires, radiator, it got all new brakes.....a bunch of the ball joints and stuff in the front end.....and other stuff I can't remember....all that was a BIG + for me...means I don't have to do it......they had even bought a clutch kit and had it in the toolbox in the event I ever need to change it.....it seems to be working fine right now....

the BF had put a nice Pioneer CD/MP3 player in it with aftermarket speakers......another ++.....has A/C, power steering....manual windows and an easily washable rubber floor mats with extra mats on top of that......it's got 197,000 miles on it, but it purrs like a kitten with all that new stuff on it....I got a reasonable deal on it and didn't expect it to be perfect....only bulb I've had to change is the high mount brake light bulb......and one of the "extra" fog lights he has on the bumper only has 1/2 the LEDS burning in them....

My cousin was going to keep it for the same reason I wanted it, but his wife told him she wanted him to finish the other half of their kitchen cabinets..... Cheesy

He only kept the truck a couple of months and priced a used drivers door for around $150.....he just couldn't find a white door....... Sad......I have a co-worker who use to work at a local junkyard and he knows all the folks in that business around this area....I bet he'd be able to get me an even better deal on one if I decide to replace it.....the door shuts fine and the hinges aren't bent.....hope it lasts me a long time..... cooldude

I'm a little fluffy at the moment......212.......versus 227 at my heaviest...and this is the time of year I plan to try to lose 20-25lbs again......I fit fine in it.... cooldude

I have to go by the insurance place tomorrow......called them briefly today and the guy said just liability/uninsured motorist would add $224/yr to our policy.....full coverage with collision/comprehensive would make it go up $382/yr....it's not my primary vehicle and the BB value is only around $2,500....I'm not sure it makes sense to have full coverage on it..... Undecided.....

Guess I need to see what our deductible is...that probably matters...the wife takes care of the car insurance stuff ....while I handle other bills......

I have a '03 Ford Ranger with 300,000+ miles on the original 3L non-CA approved engine. It has a long bed that now is only available in a full sized truck. I plan on driving it until it dies and can't be revived.

That's what I like to hear......sounds like these engines may be like the Valks if you keep the oil/fluid changed on them..... cooldude cooldude

A guy at work had one of these little ford rangers, but was an ext. cab.  He loved that little truck didn't cost him a dime.  He decided to on a whim to get a fairly new dodge dakota instead.   He said biggest mistake he made and had that dodge a year or so hated it and got a newer ford f150 5.0L V8.

LIke said, these little S-10/Rangers are hard to find.  I loved driving my former 1996 chevy s-10 2wd 4.3L V6 ext. cab. getting about 23 avg mpg.  Was a very fast truck could get the back end to hop/hop upon takeoff and served it's useful purpose before we had kids and unable to get a car seat in the back jump seats.

Now, the new 2014/15 chevy colorado crew cab 4wd V6 out just recently, although looks nice, is UNREAL in price.  I saw one at a dealership a few weeks ago in my nice dark green color I prefer.  I dang near had a heart attack MSRP was 36,500 and didn't even have leather seats in it.  WOW!

The ranger is a ford, the mazda trucks were made by for for mazda and mazda made the probe and a few others. But the ranger is all ford. I have an 02 xlt with a duratec 2.3L and first year 5 spd auto trans. 176,000+ miles on it and she still purrs like a happy kitten. Itll be buried with me.

Ford Ranger-body by Ford, 4 cylinder standard engine and 3L 6 cylinder by Mazda (not sure about the bigger 6)
Mazda B2000 series-body by Ford, engines by Mazda
Except for wiring harness and some electric all parts are interchangeable. In the '80s I had Mazda trucks because they were much cheaper to purchase and would use Ford parts often when Mazda parts had to be ordered. Ford owns part of Mazda and partners with them (at least thru 2010).

Whitewall tires!
2 hood stripes!
Custom graphics!
Flared wheel arches!
Vanity front plate!
Extra driving lights!
I can see Cletus putting an led package on his "whip".
Street cred door ding!
Color matching tool chest in the bed!
Bed liner?!
Color matching Window things so you can crack the window in the rain!

Cheese Cletus if you can't appreciate what you've got maybe you'd better let a better man drive that hot, sweet whip

Get you a sheepskin seat cover.

Cool in summer and warm in winter.  cooldude

I've had one in my Tahoe for about 15 years. It's starting to look a bit moth eaten.  Sad

I'm currently looking for a lowered Ranger, S-10 or maybe an F150. Had thought of a Dakota as well.
Needs to be in show truck shape, not a work truck. Just want an inexpensive toy to play around in and eventually give to my son.

I'm very surprised how poor the mileage is on these little trucks though. The larger F150 and Silverados aren't much worse
