When I went to use my cage today after seating my self and starting the beast I found the radio on/off/volume control knob lying on the center console.  crazy2 NOT a huge issue and to be fair the cage IS 21 years of age with 202+++ miles on her. So I stop at Oreillys to purchase an accessory knob to replace the G M O E M knob-right?? WRONG!  uglystupid2 At Oreilly the lowest package count of accessory knobs is 2. The count climbs from there to 6.  Lips Sealed And insult to injury the cost per knob goes down somewhat with a higher knob count in the package!  Undecided But I ONLY need one!  Angry And Auto Zone is similar in knob count and price per package.  uglystupid2 So instead of purchasing ONE new knob I will repair-hopefully-the 21 year old knob that broke.  cooldude I go back to when parts stores had cardboard buckets of after market accessory knobs for sale in many different colors and you could purchase said knobs individually.  cooldude Most of us here have purchased-due to packaging-more than the one we needed and sooner or later misplaced the other 2 or 3 or 4 or whatever the count is-NEVER to be seen in this lifetime again!  Cry Hopefully THIS is as bad as my day will get anytime soon!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

I can appreciate your frustration with the packaging, but I would gladly trade you for the repair estimate I received today. My '08 Nissan Versa, with 181,000 on it was getting noisier. Turns out, the catakytic converter was rotting off on both ends...and somehow...my New York purchased vehicle was a California model, boasting a more expensive cat. So, with install, we're investing $970 in a car that's nearing her latter years. (but she's been so reliable 'til now, we're doing the fix) Sigh.

If those are the worst things that happen to you boys today we are all still in that elite group of some of the most fortunate people in this world.   cooldude

And on the filip side, I had two good things happen to me today.

First, I played golf yesterday(pathetic) and when I got home realized I didn't have my watch. I called the pro shop, they made a note of it and took my phone number. Today I stopped in to check in person...nope, nothing turned in. So as I was leaving I stopped to chat with the guy that takes care of the carts, also asked if he had found a watch in one of the carts. Told me he hadn't but one of the pros found one on the driving range. I called him at home and found out he lived about 2 blks. away. He met me in his driveway, told me it was safer for him to hang on to it rather than leave it laying around loose near the front desk. Saved me some $$ for not having to buy a new one.

Second, my golf partner yesterday was my neighbor about 3 houses down. In general conversation, he mentioned the bank holding his mortgage said he wasn't required to have flood insurance anymore, said it would save him over $1k at renewal time. So today, I first contacted my insurance agent about an updated Federal review and it shows I'm also not in what's considered a flood plain. Got a copy of the printout from him and will forward it to the bank holding our equity line. If they don't require it that will save me about $525 at renewal time. Even if they still require it, it will still save me over $100 because it will be a Preferred Risk policy at lower cost and more coverage.

The only questionable thing today is trying to figure out how to use the new Kindle HD I got my wife for Christmas. It sure isn't user friendly by any stretch. That's part of the reason I don't have a smart phone....that, and the cost of service.

Man, I think I would have just bought the package of 2 and had an extra for when the next OEM knob self destructed and saved some time from running around trying to find 1.

Bit of a pessimist, are you, Mike?  My '96 Saturn just turned 500,000 km (310,000 miles).  I plan on having it be my kids' learning car when they hit their teens.  They're 9 & 12 now.

It's like when you buy a tail light you have to buy 2.

I've driven plenty of cars with useless rotted out catalytic converters back in my younger growing up years.  I like the sound of NOT having one to be honest, sounds tough, but the cops don't like it much.  Straight pipe it, problem solved?  Shocked
