back in the 50's and 60's when i would go to bed there was this radio station i used to listen to that had mystery stories or who done type stories played out by a few characters to do the different voices.. i used to get so pissed when a commercial would come on and I would fall asleep and wake up the next morning not knowing who done it..
I am wondering if anyone here remembers those radio broadcast and what they were called.. i want to download them and listen to them all over again if i can find em...

Inner Sanctum with the creaking door. Had to use your mind. Scared the crap out of me as a kid. I was 7 before we had a TV.
Sat at the kitchen table listening to a Motorola clock radio on the wall. Seems so long ago.

Glad someone brought this up!  coolsmiley I too made the transition from radio to-sigh-T V. I remember old mystery shows and westerns and ghost stories. Had the snot scared outa me a time or three with stories on the radio. When I was still driving over the road I had X M and besides Nascar they had a LOT of interesting old time radio programming. One in particular I remember made it from radio to T V was called Gang Busters.  Wink YUP-it was a cop show!  police RIDE SAFE.

Bill Cosby's 1964 skit about The Chicken Heart That Ate New York City mentions
Inner Sanctum...

Yup good old memories. Tha SHADOW KNOOWS, Amos & Andy. Used to sit on the floor and listen to all of them stories around 48-52 I was born in 43. We got our first tv about 54 . One of the first things I watched was Howdy Doody. Even early tv had some spooky shows on.

The Green Hornet.

I remember taking my Dad's car keys and sitting in his car on Sunday afternoon to listen to those shows.

That was fun, made you use your imagination.

I have a bunch of CD's that have the old shows. Tammy was skeptical as to wether she'd like them.
Easy sale. Long rides listening to the classic radio shows. listening to the same 4 songs Led Zepplin or the 2 that Arrowsmith put out that the radio played got very old.

Growing up in the 70's we used to listen to KAAY out of Little Rock... Beaker Street.. late nights on weekends for great classic rock, then later they would throw on those old radio shows... that was the 1st time I heard War Of the Worlds...  they also used to do The Shadow...

You can also look up the weekly schedule on XM/Sirius at the following site. That page allows you to view the schedule for the day or you can hit the schedule link on the page to go to the weekly schedule. Enjoy!

Here are a few more you may remember:

Gunsmoke

Sgt. Preston of the Yukon and his great dog Yukon King

Tarzan of the Apes

Gang Busters -- true crime stories that had a 21 year run into the mid 1950's

And on Saturday mornings:  Big John and Sparky

When I was a kid, prior to air conditioning and TV, we would play outside in the summer and you could hear people's radios through open windows and doors and tell the time by which radio shows were on.  One of the better things about the 1950's.

Yup, Terry and the Pirates, whole bunch I would listen to.  Remember when the boxing matches were broadcast.  When Joe Louis would throw a punch and connect, you could feel it through the speaker.  My Dad loved to listen to these.
