For my friends on this board, who also connected with me via facebook:
Today I decativated my facebook account and it should disappear in about 14 days.

After the recent changes of the Zuckerberg imperium, I had it.
Don't want to be tracked anymore and bombarded with "personalized" ads and crap like that.

BTW it is not true, that a simple message on your facebook page can help prevent this.
This message is not legally binding and Mr Zuckerberg can still do what he wants with your data.
I know that private data and profiles is the new currency in todays world.
But if I let someone use my data I want something back for it.
And the value I get out of facebook is simply not big enough.

If you want to stay in contact with me, not only on this board but also via email, just send me a PM and I will let you know my email address.

And if you want to talk to me in person - you can do that in June at InZane 15 !  - Can't wait !!! Cheesy

The thing that pisses me off is, I logoff Facebook, OK!  I get notification email for Facebook from someone, it doesn't go to a login page, it goes directly in, like I was already logged in. And I always log out of everything. Something screwy there!!

no idea what zuckerberg is all about nor facebook,  never had it, never will.  I don't see the need.  With the drama queens at work,  I hear it weekly on how someone said this or that and hurt their feelings/got them upset.  I tell them, oh well, maybe you should get rid of facebook entirely, problem solved.

For some though staying in contact with families/friends,  has it's advantages to post on one sight so EVERYONE knows your business and life.  I choose to not live that way so no one knows my business.

I'm the same with texting, use is VERY sparingly, like one text every few months.  When my daughter or wife texts me,  if it is not a 1-2 word text reply back,  I call them back old school style.  One month my 16 year old had over 8000 texts in one fricking month - unreal!   Some of us, like me,  haven't graduated yet out of the late 1980's.   I still do not have a smartphone nor never will.  The day might come in the near future that cell phone companies no longer offer a basic flip phone.  When that time comes,  I will choose to not have a cell phone at all since NOT paying an extra 40-50 bucks per month on any smartphone.

I opened a face book account a couple years ago to chat with my family in Co. Went to a party one evening and lady was making fun of me because I only had two friends. How did you know that I asked. She said everything about me and anyone I contact is available to everyone on face book. It took about 25 minutes to figure out how to delete my account and have never been back. I seem to be getting along great without it.

I had Facebook for only one week then thought to myself, Why am I doing this?

I have face to face friends and also friends on this board.  Why would I need to brag, tell all my secrets for everyone to see, and for those that think that I'm an idiot remove all doubt by constantly speaking out, and otherwise compromise forever what little privacy that I have in this Age.

I no longer have Facebook.

I opened a Facebook account years ago. I have no idea what my password is and I refused to fill out the profile. The company that forced me to open that account as part of a contract so they could easily contact me is no longer a client and since I never once used it after opening it, I have no idea if the Facebook account is even still active. I suppose I should find out some day and close it if it is still active. Email is as close to big brother as I want to get. If you are really concerned about being tracked, get rid of the mobile devices. I always wondered why that company couldn't call me on the phone like everyone else.

Even my kids don't use Facebook anymore, too many stalkers.

cooldude I'm with you on this . I have a flip phone pay as you go $15 a month . Never will have a I phone. Facebook for family and a few friends and very little at that. Even computers, I held out for many years before getting one. Oh for the days when things were not so complicated and expensive, TV included.

Sue is on FB, it's not for me.  I'm waiting for an anti-social network to be made available, one that only allows members that want nothing to do with one another...

Yup I agree with you on this, between work, family, friends and this site I have all the social contact I need. In fact sometimes after reading the news I could use a bit less  Wink Its also disturbing to hear of the tracking that goes on in FB and I am not making my need for social contact a marketing tool for others to use.

I understand that there are folks that are big fans of Facebook.  They say it's just a tool...it's what you make of it, blah blah blah.  They're entitled to their opinion.

Google (and who knows who all else) already track me enough as it is.  I don't need to fan the flames by volunteering anything else to yet more sites.

Like BobB said...I have all the web based social network contact that I need...or want.

I've never done Facebook simply for the reason of privacy. I don't like the idea of giving up personal information. Period. Now some I have to, for loans, taxes and other reasons, but I am not giving up personal information to someone who starts a website so I can contact people I haven't heard from for years. Or to talk to people I see everyday anyway. I've never quite understood why people give up their privacy so easily!
