Youth, without excess fear/nerves, can be amazing shooters. Without nerves, they can simply hold steadier (and see better) than many of us older gentlemen.
At HQ 15th AF, I taught a few families basic handgun safety and marksmanship. Most of the officer dads were Loggie, Supply, JAG types (not in the combat arms). Anyway, one family, dad and mom did OK (what you would expect with newbies) but the 13/14yo daughter was a near phenom knocking out tight groups one after another. Dad reapplied himself in earnest to match her, but it was not happening. It was her very first time shooting (a 3d generation S & W 9mm auto 4"bbl).
And I'm betting her hands fit that 42 better than us bigger guys.
BTW, I like to tape a smaller black bull (or just rub a black magic marker in a rough circle) in the center to give them a better (harder) spot to shoot for, ideally to dot the I of the front sight.
