And, if it worked, it would have been the best call ever! :cool dude:
The Pats gave them lots of chances to win. Then, the DB made a terrific play to intercept that pass.
I found it amazing, that just before that play, the announcers were saying the Pats should let them score a touchdown to save 20 seconds or so on the clock.
Funny, they never mentioned it after the Interception! LOL

Whole heartedly agree! I'm a Chiefs fan so, all I cared about it was that it would be a good game. I was not disappointed. An excellent game!! Didn't matter to me who won but, I do think the better team won this game. Those condemning Coach Carroll would be singing his praises had that pass have been the winning touchdown. Everything said run the ball, most were surprised by the pass attempt. Butler's job was to defend the receiver, he did that job and just like the previous pass where the ball was slapped around and caught by a receiver who was lucky the ball bounced that particular way, this time, luck went the other way. Great game. My thought on Coach Carroll is this, you don't go to back to back Super Bowls by making all bad calls.

Still if you're gonna make a risky gamble, maybe the Super Bowl isn't the place to do it. A local reporter said that Lynch had been 3rd and within a few yards of the goal line four times before and only scored one of those times. Maybe that's what Carol was thinking. Who knows?

Agreed, Monday morning quarterbacking or in the case coaching/play calling is always easy. At the end of the first half, the Seahawks moved the ball 80 yards and scored in five plays. Some pretty good play calling then or not? That score changed the whole dynamics of the second half game plan.

yep, Lynch could have coughed up the football on a running play, it's all a gamble so it is what it is. I watched the game with three pats fans, they were very happy. however they were wondering why the DB fell into the field of play and not drop into the end zone for a touchback. he's a rookie that's why.

Yep. He has a split second to make that decision. Also, he was right on the line. If the referee decided he was on the 1 yard line, and he went back into the end zone, would that be a safety? His momentum was also carrying him out. I find no fault with what he did. Replay, and minutes to decide, you might come up with a better move. But, not in a split second, right on the goal line, with the Super Bowl at stake? How come nobody is critizing the TD call at the end of the 1st half? Give up a almost sure FG, with 6 seconds on the clock, to go for a TD? It worked, so it was a wonderful call. If the pass was incomplete, and the 6 seconds had run off, it would have been a bone head call. You have to make a call. Sometimes right, sometimes not. The back for NE made a GREAT play to make the interception. A GREAT PLAY!

good point MP on the TD right before half vs. a field goal. I thought was a bonehead call get 3 points when you can if I was a coach. Either a field goal or TD screwed up my 1/2 time pool though and cost me money.
I still say run the ball 3x's to lynch and get a TD to win the game. NOT many runs by Seahawks ended in NO yardage, most runs were 2-4 yard cracks with hardly any negative yardage. I say if you cannot run the ball 3x's in a row and not get 1 yard, you don't deserve to win.

Don't think they had time to run 3 times. Only about 30 seconds left in game. If they had run first, and not made it, would have used last TO. If ran 2nd time, probably would not have had time to run a third, if did not make it.

I thought seahawks had 2 timeouts left, not 1, but could be wrong.
Either way, they for sure had 2nd and goal and could have had easily 2 running plays to make it even with 1 timeout.
Lynch was not really stopped for a NO gain run almost entire game at least getting 1-2 yard runs.
But, I've seen the Packers have more than once this year on 1-2 yard line first and goal and could NOT run it into the endzone in 3 plays having to kick a field goal.
Poor Russell Wilson, he is a UW-WI college young guy with a bright future ahead of him. I bet he feels the worst of all over the loss.

Lynch only had a single yard to make. His average for the game was something like 4.3 yards/carry. The man is wicked hard to stop and the odds were in his favor. Pete said this morning or sometime late last night that his plan was to throw for the down and if it didn't make it that it was okay to waste one....then they would try running it in for the last downs. That's regular season, middle of the game type thinking.
