Rabbit chasing around the Internet, I ran across this link. Apparently this guy found what he thought was the unit patch for a super secret Air Force unit. He filed an FOI. The response from the Air Force made me laugh till I cried.

Back in the late 50's and early 60's I was assigned to the 509th when it relocated to Pease AFB in Portsmouth, NH. I used to have a lighter with the insignia emblazoned on it, lost many years ago. Pease with the 509th was probably my best assignment. As for the goofy insignia, the answers received got me chuckling.
