I'm getting a new shield for my Interstate and am thinking I'd like a vent it. I currently have a show chrome shield that causes lots of buffeting and nose and I'm hoping a taller shield with the vent will help.
Do any of you Interstate owners have the CV shield with vent? What do you think of it?

No i don't but I think a taller shield would cause more buffeting. I have a Shield from CeeBailey's 7 or 8" and no problems but doesn't have a vent (never understood a vent in a wind screen).

You show you are on an I/S. If you haven't plugged it the I/S comes vented in the fairing already. Somebody-ME-had to play devils advocate!  RIDE SAFE.

Have one with vent and light gray tint. Love it. Will be getting one for the other interstate. The middle of the screen dips slightly so I look right over the top with no buffeting. I also got the widest one they have.. Will also be getting one for the vtx 1800.

Yes, I got one a few years ago with a vent. Best option there is, IMHO. Great when it gets a little stuffy behind the windshield and a necessity if you wear a cooling vest. Even when closed there are vents that direct the air flow straight up the inside of the windshield. Really don't feel any difference in buffeting with the vent open or closed. I also have a taller CV shield that I bought first, in a try to reduce helmet buffeting. It did help a little, but I hated looking through the windshield. I went back to a shorter shield and had the vent installed. Clearview has to cut the hole for the vent before they bend the shield into the correct shape. This means that a vent cannot be added later.

A set of lowers and a set of Bakers will probably do more to cure your buffeting if you don't have them on your Valk already.

I was mostly curious is the vent would make an appreciable difference as adds an extra $50 to the total cost of the shield.

From what you said, a taller shield might help with head buffeting by directing the wind up and over your helmet/head. You could actually test this by ducking a little bit to see. Some shields have a bent lip at the top edge of the shield which helps to redirect wind as well. The larger shield might have other issues of front end buffeting, but you wouldn't know til you tried that. I believe they make shield add ons that add some height to shields that you might want to consider as well, maybe for seasonal changes. I don't think the vent would make a diff either way regarding buffeting.....but might redirect some bugs into your face if you had the vent adjusted that way. As someone indicated, there is already a vent in your fairing. But the shield vent would help to direct wind to help with personal cooling on those stuffy days behind a tall shield.

Clearview is becoming a club sponsor, which in itself would be a good rason to buy one from them. Not to mention that they make an exceptional product. As far as a vent helping with buffeting it absolutly will. When you are riding down the road you are blowing a hole into the atmosphere. As you pass the air pressure imidiately tries to equalize and fill that hole back in. This is a cause of buffeting. By opening the vent in the shield you are allowing the pressure to equalize much faster and easier. I believe that the buffeting that you are expereancing is the air rushing back in from behind your head. Another nice feature is that scratches are easily buffed out of a Clearview. Go with the vent.

I can vouch for the vent dramatically reducing buffeting. It's also really nice when cutting through heavy wind. I've got their tallest and widest shield, tinted and vented. Most of my 6'2" is in my long waist, and the shield is perfect for me. I look over it easily, and can duck behind it with a nod of my head.

I take it your new Clearview will be taller than even your one you have now being 2" or so taller than OEM? Are you going to sell your old shield or keep it as a backup after spring when you decide if you like the new shield or not?? My stock I/S shield is OEM and works for me being only 5'10", but does have a few long hairline scratches in it and been considering a 2" taller and 2" or so wider shield - hint, hint?

All yours, Cookie. Shipping shouldn't be a problem! Just FYI, I copied this from Clearview's website regarding windshield vents: "Venting your windshield will help to quiet down your ride. Adding a vent to your windshield will allow air into the riding pocket. This will smooth out the airflow around the rider, decreasing the annoying turbulence. It will also reduce the low rumble and unpleasant backpressure caused by air trying to fill in behind the screen."

See ya sometime in the spring/summer then when you come down south to visit relatives!  The vent would make sense in what clearview says, but just in case it wind whistles like my I/S vent does below my shield, I'd want to make sure you can close the vent at hwy. speeds. I have foam strips mostly all away across my I/S vents since the whistling drives me nuts.
