It was 15 below when I woke up. I have a heated mattress pad, so it was cozy in bed. Of course, one of the first things I see is a Facebook post from someone in California, with a picture of them on a beach. Why do people do that? Cruel.

Only low teens here, but the wind blowing like a typhoon for two days (just roaring like an airliner) ).
I thought all the deadwood was already out of my five 100yo oaks. Boy was I wrong.
At least we have not lost power. (heat)

-6 here, real feel -22. I went out in my hot tub to read and have my morning coffee as usual, I didn't stay out long and the beard was frosted up in a matter of minutes. It is F-ing cold out there! I can not wait for global warming. I've been doing my part by exhaling as much CO2 as possible. I've also been eating Mexican and farting as much as possible.

Will have to foam that Sum Beech up come spring.
Damn, I can't take the cold no more.

Its in the upper 20's here. Sun is up and shinning brightly. Suppose to be in upper 50's later today. Yesterday we were some 17 degrees above normal, a beautiful 62 degrees of great sunshine. Yes, went for a 3 hour ride. Saw a bunch of other bikes out and about. Normally we are white and lot colder. This winter has been awfully warm, we are experiencing localized global warming.

Apparently some of us didnt get the memo. Global warming is no longer the proper term. Those in the know call it climate change now. And I believe they may be on to something. Yesterday, 61 degrees F in Calgary. -5 F in southeastern Michigan. 24 inches of snow forcast for Nashville and Raleigh tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is any evidence this is all tied to the melting of the polar icecaps?

Pretty chilly here this morning, saw my neighbor gal out playing golf at 10:00am and had a sweatshirt on with her short pants. Hope it warms up into the 60's or more, I like to work in the shop with the door open. So far, this is the first winter in many years where we haven't had temps drop into the 20's at night. One year we had a power outage and were glad we had the fireplace. Firewood started running low and my wife was talking about using that ugly dining room table. The town of Frostproof no longer is.

same here single digits with wind chill below zero. Could be worse: Anyone live near Boston MA area willing to send us some photos of all that snow they are getting and have gotten all winter long? I cannot even imagine what they are all going thru, makes just our cold weather much more bearable since don't have to be out it in much if don't want to, but when you have to shovel/snowblow for 2-3 hours per day, makes it NOT fun at all.
Cold not an issue, it is the wind that makes it unbearable. Went ice fishing once in ND with -5 for highs and below -30 windchill for 3 days straight. NUTS when the eyelashes start freezing shut on you. NOT doing that crap again EVER, but cannot predict the weather when you plan your trips I guess?

Well here in West Central Louisiana, 55 this morning. My crabapple tree out back is in bloom, and noticed some yellow pine pollen on the cars yesterday. Haven't got to fire up the fireplace yet this winter, but we have had our share of rain. Think we only got frost about 5 mornings, looks like spring is getting ready to spring.

No, it's evidence of God's justice. For today, anyway. From about 15 minutes ago:

Variable is the word here.
Jan 14 to 31 High Temps: 39 degrees F to 64 F. 64 was a record high for Jan 28. Old Rec. 63 set 1931. Jan 28 Low: 31.
Feb 1 to 14 High temps: 19 F to 53
Feb 1 4.9 inches of sloppy wet snow that seeped into every crack. Low that night -7 F. That blew up the streets into potholes.
Feb 4 6.6 inches of snow. Low that night -13. Feb 5 Low -16.
Then it warmed revealing the near endless numbers of potholes.
City blitzed the pothole problem with about 60 repair crews and patched over 13,000 potholes in about 10 days.
Summary: Record high Jan 28: 64 Low 31 Low Feb 1: - 7 Low Feb 4: -13 Low Feb 5: -16
Now a dreary 17 & cloudy. Sure wouldn't trade with Boston though!!

Yes. Climate researchers and meteorologists know. It was explained this way by local meteorologist Shawn McMullen in a presentation to Nebraska Citizens for Science: While the Arctic is most strongly affected by warming, the general warming results in air rising higher at the equator than in the past with some resulting drop in barometric pressures around the northern hemisphere. This has resulted in altered patterns in the jet stream allowing it to develop kinks that extend farther south than usual. Also the polar vortex is allowed to drop to the south, again by the reduced pressure. The combination of these two alterations in air flow pattern lead to cold arctic air moving much farther south than usual and more turbulent than usual. These factors combined with increased moisture in the air (caused by warming of the oceans) produce the heavy summer rains and flooding as well as tornados a lot of places besides tornado alley. They also contribute to heavy snows and low temperatures that we observe in places we are not used to seeing them. So much change resulting from the warming is counter intuitive that the term "global warming" was not descriptive to the public so the preferred term is now "global climate change."

So much change resulting from the warming is counter intuitive that the term "global warming" was not descriptive to the public so the preferred term is now "global climate change." That is what is called Climate, that has been going on since the beginning (just ask some of our older folks). Climate has been changing and that is what we are seeing. The UN computer programs have failed to show what is really going on since they were created. Of course the "Warming Science" folks have blamed everything except for their failed programs for the lapse in warming of the globe. Man cause change to the climate, except for localize events, is pure fantasy. Use by certain political folks to try to redistribute the wealth. As far as the melting of the ice caps, Artic sea ice has been increasing the last two years. And is expected to continue this increase. The Antarctic has been setting records in sea ice for the last two years. No melting of the ice caps for near future. As a side note, we have been experiencing a rather warm start to the year, while the folks in the Midwest and East coast have been enjoying the opposite.

Got a hair cut and beard trim today. The barbershop was cold inside and the girl that cut my hair/beard had stiff nipples.
That is the only thing good about this cold weather,....and yes, I did give her a big tip.

The wind died down and the sun came out. We made it across and then came back and played around in the snow. I assumed it had warmed up, but when we went back inside, I found out it was still below zero. I think we have just become acclimated to the frigid weather. So, who walked the dog across the lake this morning???

I bet you will be going back for a quick trim sooner rather than later? My first office job back in the early 90's, we had a gal who was always cold in the winter. I loved winter, for if I ever needed a place to hang my coffee cup, I knew where to look. Sort of hard NOT to look when they stuck out literally about 1" and on top of that, she wore a leather MINI MINI skirt often. I need to find another place like that to work or for at least gazzing admiring the views, not much to look at right now? Speaking of hot tubs, the wife wants to get one in our backyard, but not so sure we would use it just like our rich neighbors put one in and they used it a ton the first 2 years, and now hardly at all. When we use to take the kids, when younger, to WI Dells inside waterparks during winter, we loved to sit out at night drinking when below zero in their hot tub. It was especially fun when it was snowing, very relaxing indeed.

As a matter of fact I may need to get a "touch up" before heading to Daytona at the end of the month. Hope they have the heat turned down,....at the barbershop,....not Florida.
