Just stopped by the house to drop off a package I picked up at the post office.  Walked into garage to find my tank sitting upside down on the concrete floor where it had either fallen off the bench or knocked off the bench it was sitting on.  Freaking furious right now.  Don't know if it was the kids or dogs but regardless, none of them have jobs or money.  Big dent on right front corner where it hit the floor and scratched all to crap down to the metal.  Can PDR people fix these things?  How well can a decent body shop put them back in shape?  I certainly cannot afford a new IS tank.

Just makes me sick to even look at it after knowing how good it looked after all that buffing and waxing.

Sorry.... That sucks.

 I would take the tank to who ever does PDR in your area, and see what they say. I've read that the metal in fuel tanks are thicker, which may makes PDR difficult.  But I wouldn't rule it out until you talk to them.

that sucks.. it can be fixed. local body shop. maybe even a small little shop.  now take out the petcock. gas cap off.  wash it out really good with hot soapy water. needs cleaned up and out before you take it anywhere.. wash it wash it soapy water air dry it out. sorry our having issues

Just talked to a guy in the area that has a custom bike fabrication and paint shop.  All he does is motorcycles and the work I have seen of his in the past up at the Ray Price weekend has looked great.  He said from 200 to 500 based on phone description of repair.  I looked up my pricing at the paint shop and the paints, primers, activators, and reducers would all wind up costing me over 150 bucks by itself.  I think I am going to drop it there friday and pay the bill.  You know, if you do not over-complicate things, repairs like this are really very simple I guess.  Just write the check.

AND if you were to find a replacement I/S tank that had NOT been used or sitting for YEARS it COULD have rust issues. Some experiences hurt more than others. While I have no one here but me cats do get into my garage!  When my tank is off I have boards and an out of the way place to put my tank and cover it on the floor. Anything that comes off my bike that's large gets stored on the floor and covered. Learned THAT lesson a long long time ago in another galaxy far far away!  Small parts go into a big coffee can.  Believe me when I tell you I DO feel yer pain.  Try to explain THAT to a customer that you already told to come in and pick it up just before closing!  Been there done that got the scars.  RIDE SAFE.

check out the PDR shops that do the hail damage stuff,, i bet it would cost less than a hundred dollars,,, i watch them do my car and its amazing how that works...

Whole tank has to be repainted also.  It is scratched all to crap all the way down to the metal.

There are PDR setups specifically for motorcycle tanks, with their main attribute, as I recall, is the ability to affix the tank on a rotisserie. The fuel level float flange in the bottom of the IS tank will be a huge convenience!

Hell, I'd give that a shot myself.  Go in thru the fill hole and the fuel level sensor hole.  Just make sure you don't screw up the sensor hole if you have to do some prying.  I went from this:

With a rattle can.   Now I had to cheat and use a little bondo, but it was buggered up a lot worse than yours.

You might get lucky and pop that dent out.  I really couldn't see how bad it was in the photos.

LOL  No, but the bench is only a couple feet high and the big guy has a tail that is definitely that high off the ground.

HOWEVER.......  One good thing is that my new tool box/workbench showed up today so now I can keep things out of range of the dogs and get rid of the fold out table that hs to keep everything piled up on top of it.

The only problem I've found with that is the more horizontal surfaces I get in the garage, the more stuff seems to accumulate on them.  Cool dog and nice tool box.

I actually kept the box that the seat showed up in today and when that tank is finished it is going to sit in that box until it is time to be mounted.

You might have guessed by now-we LOVE motorcycles.  MIGHT be part of the reason I don't have a lady friend. My Phatt Ghurl LOVES it when I ride her hard! And she ONLY complained once AND it weren't her fault-her electrical heart gave out.  BUT the proper 'R & R surgery fixed her up goodasnew!  RIDE SAFE.
