After a few years since I had to sell my my Interstate Valk I am finally back on one. Due to money (or a lack there of) I have been on lesser and cheaper bikes the past few years. But I found a pretty good deal on a 2000 standard. It needs some work, mostly cosmetic. Mechanically it rides and sounds great. But since I bought it for $3500 I can make it like I want it. It only has 9600 miles on it. What should I start with? I thought I would start with the Dan Marc fuel shutoff and go through the carbs but what after that? Below are a couple of before pictures.

If it runs and sounds good I'd leave the carbs be. Maybe do a manual petcock.  Make it confy for you then worry about everything else.  Looks dont matter if you can't stand to be on it. Do all services, rear end, oil, clutch, brakes, tires if it needs it. Then do cosmetic stuff, unless of course it makes sense to do cosmetic while you have it apart for service. congrats on the newto you bike.

Looks good.  Appears you have some unobtanium on it, too!

Just off the top of my noggin a good scrub and a good polish and a good wax job would go a LONG way to making her look NOT her age!  Roll Eyes I'm with GavinSons-take care of the services and mechanicals first so it CAN be ridden.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

You have 15 year old timing belts on a 0 clearance motor. I would change them out.

Look into the rump man ( you know , the final drive) . As much as you want to ride , do the mechanical service. Valkyries are hard to push. Check all lights and battery connections.

glad to hear you are back on a val..... looks like a good base, like others said, do complete service first, dont want to get stuck out on the road, with soooo few miles I think belts will be ok, but do oil, final drive ,coolent change, ck cables, and for sure give her a good bath!!!!!!!
I have had 7 bikes, started witha honda 450cl worked my way up to a v-twin 1300 then found a valkyrie 1500, loved the motor. now I have the 2014 val 1832, dressed it up through the winter, just put the back rest on, had the pad recovered in red vinal to match the inserts I put on top of the bags.   50s are coming this week, I will be out riding. hope the same for you.

After some elbow grease and a few parts I've made improvements. And thanks to da prez I now have highway bars. But they are for an IS model. So what could I use them for? Lights, airhorns? Or just cut them off? Any ideas?
